Races of Stone - new race will be included!

From the Complete Divine designers interview:

"The next thing people will see with my name on it is Races of Stone, a sourcebook for dwarves, gnomes, and an all-new character race." -- David Noonan.

A new race? Well, I guess we're getting all these new character classes as well. :)

I think this shows that the Wizards design team is serious about expanding the game. Where in 3E they were somewhat conservative, there's a lot more going on in 3.5E!

Cheers!

The race would be the goliaths, as mentioned in the Product Entry for Races of Stone. Unless they have changed the name since then, which I doubt. :)

Thanks - I'd somehow managed to miss that. (Probably because I was looking up information for Giants of Legend).

"rules for magic rune circles"... oh boy.

I have a feeling that, with 3.5E, the slumbering giant that is WotC has awoken.

Cheers!

Quite possible. :) I'd just wish they would show more ... courage to include 3rd-party OGC in their books.

It'd be interesting if they did - of course, UA was a huge step forward. :)

I think they'll be analysing the success of UA before doing much more OGC.

Cheers!

I think the context of where the new race is makes it exciting; although for those with the Expanded Psionics Handbook, they already have a couple of new races. (Still hasn't reached Ballarat, grrr!!!!)

Were there any new races introduced in the "core" game of D&D 3E? By that I mean the non-world supplements? I don't think so. Well, certainly not outside of a monster manual, until Savage Species. However, even then those races in SS weren't written up in a similar manner as to those in the PH.

Now, in 3.5E, we have new races in the Psionics Handbook and in Races of Stone. There are new classes in the MHb, Complete Warrior and Complete Divine. Areas that previously didn't have that much attention given to them - well, not by Wizards, are now getting it.

I'm sure that there are d20 publishers out there doing similar things, but in sleepy old Ballarat, I only really see what Wizards are doing.

Cheers!

There are many new monsters introduced as PC races in the Monster Manual. I'd be skeptical if the new race may be considered part of the core rules in the next edition of D&D (i.e., inserted into the Player's Handbook).

Maybe I'm just too damn conservative. Just recently I've gotten used to the return of the half-orc as a PC race in the Third Editon PH. :D

There are, but they don't get PHB-style write ups, which generally go into more depth about the race and its customs.

Hehe! :)
