Don't tell anyone, but I have the ToC for Races of the Wild:

It also seems that the Web Enhancement will include a random elf subrace generator.
Seems they cut out some of my submissions, though some of them could be... :( :
Ancestral Elf
Aquatic War Elf
Halfling-Elf
Holy Elf
Radiant Canyon Elf
Savage Wood Elf
Taiga Elf
Trader Elf
Witch Elf

OK, I admit that they are from here. :D

From looking at the cover, I'd say the goliath will be the third race pictured--the one holding up a Small character (gnome) in one hand to a Medium character (Dwarf). From that picture, the creature is definitely Large (or at least "Large-like" similar to what they did with Half-Giants in the XPH. I must say, I was really hoping for something more along the lines of the Obsidimen from Earthdawn...

Indeed it does... I'm not sure it's a good thing though. "goliath" (the name) carries a lot of baggage... religious, christian baggage.

Truthfully, I doubt most people would make the biblical connection. Goliath is just a big guy nowadays. (or a gargoyle, but...)

My problem with the name is, it really doesn't sound like something they would call themselves. Granted dwarf's & halflings are more how humans would name the races than the races would name themselves, but still.

Stonechild from the Mini's handbook are close, but ECL+4.

Any obsidimen race would almost HAVE to be ECL, though they did an okay balancing act with the Warforged from Eberron. Natural Armor + good str & con is a must.

Noooooo! What about the half-Athasian-elf orc?!?!? How could they leave them out? WotC is teh suxxorz!!

(In case you're reading this, O esteemed WotC writers - YES, WE ARE MOCKING YOU! Enough bloody elves, already!)
Bah. You don't know what you're talking about. If anything, there need to be more elf subraces.

I won't be happy until I can play as a bamboo forest elf with the ninja class! ;)

Honestly, I don't see what the big deal about a new race is. So far, there have been more of those added then new base classes. Just look at all the FR products where new races were introduced, not to mention that the monster books that have come out have always included entries for monsters that can be used as PCs.

I like all the new races, PrCs & monsters I can get, so I can pick & choose what will be in my games. That being said, the whole "there's a new race!" thing only helps if the race is actually interesting. :)

Were there any new races introduced in the "core" game of D&D 3E? By that I mean the non-world supplements? I don't think so. Well, certainly not outside of a monster manual, until Savage Species. However, even then those races in SS weren't written up in a similar manner as to those in the PH.

The half-ogre in SS was indeed written up with a PHB-style racial description. And right there we were given a big, strong, tough race that people largely felt was too cheap at +1LA.

And what? We should stop using the Vanara because they carry a lot of religious baggage? Religious Hindu Baggage?

What about Devas?
Or Asuras?
Or Angels?
Or Rakshasas?
Or Golems?
Or Devils?

Rakshasas? What, did someone actually build a religion around Kolchak, the Night Stalker without telling me? :)
