I can't stand the whole dungeonpunk spikes/straps/tats look. And what's with the oversized weapons (with serrated edges and/or holes in them -- as seen on TV)?

I know somebody out there must like that look, but I'm hoping it goes away soon...

Criticising Wayne Reynolds's artwork just gets you pity, from me. Yes, those spikes are ridiculous, but it's the Goddamned Red Wizards of Thay, of course they put their bodyguards in ridiculous menacing armour. They're the villains of bad Eighties sword-and-sorcery movies.

As for his use of serrated/perforated blades:

Yeah. There's no way to legitimately criticise that.
 


I think the serrated and perforated blades can kinda be justified even besides just looking neat. Every hole in a weapon is that much less metal being swung around, and a lighter weapon is easier to use. Also, in some cases a perforation might be handy way to catch a sword. Serrations could conceivably also help with disarming/parrying, and also make wounds a bit nastier. They might also be a symptom of shoddy goblin craftsmanship...
