Rakshasa Question.....

Elocin

Lurker (sort of)
My group and I are about to start a new campaign and the DM has told us that we can be any race or template or what have you we want to play, also we are starting out a 40 point buy. Not sure how well the campaign is going to go, as he wants to try his first time at DMing. Anyway, we will be starting out in City of the spider Queen and our starting level would be 10. I was thinking of playing a Rakshasa Sorcerer but am unsure if a Rakshasa Sorcerer 3 would be an ECL of 10 or 14. Could someone please enlighten me on this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Rakshasas have 7 racial HD and are a +7 level adjustment... thats 14 levels right there. Add in 3 from sorceror and you're looking at a effective level 17 character.

To figure out in PC terms how high a level a monster would be just add racial hd + level adjustment + character levels.

If you or someone in your group can get ahold of the WotC book Savage Species, you could play a level 10 Rakshasa - but your next few levels would be spent working on gaining your remaining racial levels (to get you up to the ECL 14 Diirk mentioned), before you could start taking any Sorcerer levels.

Though in my own campaign, I've house ruled that characters can multi-class with racial levels, as long as at least 1/2 (rounded up) of their character levels are racial (though they forfeit the feat and ability adjustments all other characters get every 3rd and 4th level until their current character level = max racial level.) It's a little more like the Bloodlines presented in Unearthed Arcana that way, and opens up more interesting character concepts for the players.

Ok, thank you for the respone, I was not sure (and I did my math wrong in my question, sorry about that) about the ECL of my idea but now I know.

Thank you all.
