My group does exactly what Feldspar describes. :)

Grouping the dice together makes it easier for the DM to review your math as well.

Not to mention that its just more fun and exciting for the dice to roll. Hearing a dm go click-click-type-type-click "ok, you did 37 points of damage" just isn't the same.
 

If you've got a Palm OS device, I recommend DicePro very highly.

I would allow it at my table. In fact, for large handfuls of dice I would prefer it at my table.

Yes! You can't get a sinking feeling in your stomach when you hear some typing like you can when you hear a dump-truck full of dice being rolled and it being announced "Everyone make a reflex save."
