Random Thoughts on Law & Order: SVU

I'm a big fan of SVU, in that I think the characters, such that they are, are excellently written. However...

1) The preview for next weeks episode... Benson may have HIV. This is such a trite, overused storyline that it really makes me wonder if there's a shark swimming around. Heh, an overused phrase for an overused plot. Now, I'm well aware that NBC deliberately misleads it's audience in the previews. And I have no problem with HIV as a genuine storyline or character trait. However, this whole "may or may not have HIV" story belonged five years ago even, not today... at least, not in the US IMO. Awareness of HIV and other STDs are and have been rising steadily, and rates are generally dropping.

2) Whatever happened to Ms. Cabbot? Seriously, as much as I'm disgusted that Stephanie March could be going out with Bobby Flay (who IMO exemplifies every US stereotype), her character was so great. I'd heard she's supposed to be back for an episode or two this season... I guess that's just not gonna happen, unless it'll be a May sweeps deal.

3) B.D. Wong owns.

4) I really wish we could see more of the other agents (Tutuola and Munch) and the boss... it seems like the show has been focused a little too much on Benson and Stabler, IMO. Maybe that's just my own perception.

5) As long as I'm wishing... I miss the days of Stabler having a family.

Anyway, I know it sounds like I'm whining, but really except for the first complaint I'm really enjoying the show... I like it better than the original and it's soooo much better than Criminal Intent.

If memory serves, ADA Cabot faked her own death and moved into the witness protection program after running afoul of the mob. I dunno if she'll be making a special guest appearance or not, but I wouldn't expect her to have any kind of recurring role.

Lots of former regulars on the L&O series' are having their names tossed around for appearances on the next one (Trial by Jury), so there's always a chance she'll turn up there.

1) What was the thing that convinced Jeffries to leave the SVU? I saw the episode where the captain tried to convince her to stay, but without putting her back on the streets. But (given that I generally only see reruns) I don't know the continuity.

2) Benson isn't a family man any more? What happened there? Divorce?

And just to be a stickler for details, it wasn't the mob, it was a Columbian drug cartel.

I want Dean White back!(the guy who played Munch's original partner). Maybe in Trial by Jury?

And for me, it's just the opposite - I enjoy CI the most (with the original a close second... SVU lags far far behind, but I still watch it because I like L&O).

Goren owns. ;)

I like CI, but I just can't get past Vincent D'onofrio. I keep picturing him as Edgar in Men in Black.

I'm with you. Vincent rules. I rate CI as my favorite, with SVU closely behind, and the original behind those (but still good).

But I, too, miss Cabot. And I'm not too thrilled with the new ADA. Oh well. Still a good show.

Not that I know of. Just sort of forgotten in the mix. We don't see them much at all.

1) IIRC, the unit was having psych evaluations done. Jeffries revealed that she was sleeping with random guys, and in one case a suspect (or someone who had been a suspect. I can't remember). That was deemed dangerous behavior, so she was offered a transfer to Vice.
