Actually, it's roll or take average. If you do it once, do it the same way from then on.

Then I started wondering what level spells you could cast at that point, and how many quickened spells a round...and whether or not it's worth stacking up Archmage/RedWizard/Incantatrix/ArcaneLord/Wizard...etc etc.

Of course, in that game, the ultimate thing would be to kill someone with a magic missile.
