Range of bite/claw when enlarged

That's a pretty serious gimp of not letting spell casters research new spells....Researching spells IS a part of the core rules. They even list learning spells from dragons as a flavor example.

Does he also disallow any and all customized magic items that are not specifically listed in the DMG?

Imo thats a very sensible thing to disallow. Customized spells/items are simply too often game breaking.

You could try to get access to Righteous Might (either by taking cleric levels or Use Magic Device). That increases your size too.

That's exactly the reason. Too many powergamer in the group :)

That's impossible since I only got level 16 - 20 left (DD goes from 6 to 15). Of course I could go cleric level 3 and then cast it from a scroll. Level 5 Scroll is DC10 against my caster level + 1D20. But since wisdom is only 8, I need a lot of more wisdom. And for level 5 spells there are no wands. What remains is: ring of spell storing. Can be used by anyone even non spell caster.
But well, I was hoping for some easier way...

Almost. However, for example it is allowed to have a cloak charima + 1 (only +2/+4/+6 is listed in the DM Guide). Magic items from other sources are not allowed, unless (maybe) it's based on core book spells. You got some specific in mind?

Thx for your input!

Well, my DM doesn't allow new, customized spells, and "psionic" is not considered core rules for him, therefore this is not allowed as well.
Core rules for him is DM's guide, PHB and Monstermanual 1.

So I am probably lost on my quest to get large with a DD10?
Any tricks possible with alter self? Change myself into myself, just one size larger? Won't work probably because (a) template char and (b) more than 5 HD.
Just take a level of another class before you reach level 10 Dragon Disciple. make Dragon Disciple 10 your "experience asymptote."

I also though about that. But the strange thing with the DD prestige class is that you get about 50% of the goodies on this *very last level*:
- immunitiy to fire
- +4 STR
- +1 natural AC
- +2d8 fire breath (to the existing 4d8)
- +2 CH
- Immunity to paralysis, sleep effects
- Darkvision/Lowlightvision
- +30 ft blindsense (to the existing 30 ft)
- Immunity to charm person / hold person

I never understood why everything comes at the last level. It can't be because of the enlarge thing, can it?

Pure core, so you mean no prestige classes on other supplements, right?

Depends on your INT/CHA, alignment and combination of classes you have taken before DD, but if Righteous Might scrolls are available, taking some levels of levels of Bard or Rogue may be better than taking levels cleric levels. With 2-4 levels in bard or rogue after finishing DD, you can have 20+ ranks in UMD. DC for a CL 9 scroll is 29. With enough high charisma score, it is entirely possible to make it regularly. Don't worry about your low WIS. DC fore pretending to have WIS 20 is only 20 30.

You yon can really affort, you may star to to invest some skill ranks to UMD while taking DD levles. Or, spend one feat of Skill Focus (UMD).

Hmm, that's really good advice! Thx for the info. There are other nice uses for UMD as well (thinking on other cleric spells with usage=personal)!

Oops my bad. Pretending to have ability score is much difficult. DC is 15+ Ability Score. So, you must hit 30. But anyway, DC for CL 9 scroll is 29 and thus you must aim for it.

And, at least, if you can hit DC 20, you can use any wands and staves without problem and that is a big boon.

True, but for a 5. level scroll a wisdom score of 15 is enough, so I have to hit WIS 15 (DC30).
WIS 20 would be DC35, wouldn't it?

Yes you are right.

It is not a good thing to make a rule-related comment when very sleepy. :heh:
