Ranged flanking

two

First Post
I'm having a brain freeze here.

Let's say a rogue is monkey-gripping a reach weapon, with a pal on the other side of an Orc.

Can the +6 BAB rogue throw three daggers at the Orc and get sneak attack damage on the ranged dagger attacks (using Rapid Shot and quickdraw and etc.).

Yes I know he could also just attack with the monkey gripped reach weapon twice and then throw a dagger, but suppose he didn't?

Is this a way to get ranged flanking benefits?

(please ignore the horrific penalties involved. I suppose an enlarged rogue with 10' natural reach and Imp. Unarmed Strike could throw daggers without any monkey-business).

No.
No.

No flanking with ranged weapons. The fact that you're flanking with a reach weapon doesn't allow sneak attack/flank benefits for ranged attacks, even if its you flanking.

Flanking only applies to melee attacks, not ranged attacks, so you wouldn't get SA damage on the thrown weapons, but you would on your monkey-gripped melee weapon.

Or another way to say it, You only gain flanking benefits with the weapon you threaten your opponent with. Since you threaten him with the monkey gripped weapon and not the daggers, the answer is "no".

No, no, no.

You are flanking an opponent if you are making a melee attack, and your ally threatens the opponent. You don't need to be threatening to gain the benefits - you can attack with a whip, for example - but you do need to be making a melee attack.

It's your ally who needs to threaten.

And, AFAIK, now with 3.5e Monkey Grip, a medium character can,

*Use a large two-handed weapon in two hand with -2 penalty
*Use a large one-handed weapon in one hand with -2 penalty

but can't use medium two-handed weapon in one hand.

Right.

So go with his Enlarged rogue instead. Or just stand 5' away and suck up the AoO for making a ranged attack while threatened. Or stand 5' away while using Greater Invisibility to prevent the AoO. He still can't gain flanking benefits with a ranged attack.
