Ranged healing spells?

What do you think of this spell?

1st level cleric/druid spell
Cures 1 hp of damage
Range: Short
(effectively a ranged cure minor wounds so that the cleric can stabalize a dying PC from range))

Does 1st level seem right?
How about a ranged Cure Light Wounds (1d8+lvl healing)? Would that one be 2nd level or 3rd, or higher?

There's actually a feat that allows touch spells to be range short or something like that. I'm not sure what it was in so I'm not able to look it up to be all that helpful.

The feat is Range Spell from Defenders of the Faith.

Its a +1 level metamagic feat, I believe. The Cleric in my old campaign used it all the time for ranged Cure Lights.

It turns touch spells into rays. Pretty nasty really, especially when combined with some offensive spells (Ranged Harm as a 7th level, for example.)

Make that 1d4 hit points and it'll be good. Neat idea by the way. :) I'm comparing it to this spelll from Dragon Mag...

This spell, designed to work on the battlefield, allows you to stabilize the dying all around you. A burst of positive energy spreads out from you, healing 1 point of damage to all living creatures in the area of effect, whether allied or not.

It's a 2nd level cleric spell, and the area is a 10-ft./level radius burst, centered on the caster.

Well, burning a feat on something like this seems expensive unless you plan on using all kinds of touch spells at range.

I was more trying to gage the spell level of a ranged healing spell. The DotF feat is a good start in figuring out the spell level, but I bet it's +2 due to the possible abuses with countless touch attacks.

Which Dragon Mag had the area of effect healing spell in it mentioned above? I don't recall seeing that one.

Defenders of the Faith has that feat, it is (quite simply) "Ranged Spell" ... turns touch spells into 30' ranged touch spells.

Adds two levels, so for the original poster ... a Ranged Cure Minor Wounds spell woudl be SECOND level, not first. Though personally, I think the Feat costs too much. +1 Level to give a 30' range to curative spells isn't brokenly powerful, but +2 levels ... my current cleric (in a Ravenloft campaign, heh) won't be taking it, until MUCH later. I'd rather move over to the needy person, and drop a Cure Serious, than pull off a 30-foot-range Cure Light ... using the same 3d-level spell slot, no less.

However, for a 2d level spell slot, I'd be willing to keep a few available. Or use 1st level slots on ranged Cure Minor Wound spells, for stabilising downed allies in a crisis.
