Ranged healing spells?

Defenders of the Faith has that feat, it is (quite simply) "Ranged Spell" ... turns touch spells into 30' ranged touch spells.
Is my copy of DotF misprinted or something? That's about the fiftieth time I've seen the wrong name for this feat. It's called Reach Spell. I'm looking right at it.

It is Reach Spell. I couldn't remember what it was called and it seems I'm not alone on this :D

Potions

On a similar vein, has anyone had any experience with healing potions being used as grenade-like weapons? Hit the target with a ranged touch for 1d8+1, miss and splash damage for 1 healing? How would this affect the price of a potion of CLW? How about with no splash, so it's just like the normal potion. Any reason it has to be injested/applied?

Yeah it has to be ingested, otherwise smart PCs might use it as ranged weapons with more effect than holy water :D

Hey, Vampire, here goes my potion of cure critical wounds...

It's a potion. So you must drink it. It's not a salve or something. But you could try to hit his mouth :p ;)

To the ranged healing problem: never forget Healing Circle and Mass Heal.

I think you'd be fine adding a line of Cure spells that work at Close range for a +1 level. The Reach Spell feat is good for heals, sure, but it's also good for Heal/Harm, Otto's, all the other Sor/Wiz spells that use touch attacks, etc. That flexibility is worth the +2 levels, especially for Harm.

So, you'd have (forgive the names, use whatever names you want) Ranged Cure Minor Wounds (level 1), Light at 2, Moderate at 3, Serious at 4, and Critical at 5. Don't add a ranged Heal/Harm.

Sorry, I posted solely from memory, having earlier that night considered that very feat for a later chocie for my cleric (in Ravenloft). I decided against it. 8) TWO levels is too much, considering I expect ONLY to use it for healing and restorative magicks.

Well, then there's all the powergamers who would want Reached inflicts, Bestow Curses, Poisons, and Harms. That's why it's two levels rather than one.

And why's that making a powergamer out of them? They want to improve the spells, and are willing to pay the price (of +2 ESL and a feat). There's no much difference between that and a Fireball without any components (which would be +2 ESL and three feats, but those feats are much more versatile). That's how 3e works. Don't call people powergamers only because they play differently from you.
