RANT: Credit card Fraud

I believe you are quite correct on that count.

Let me offer you a couple of brief sentences for contemplation:
I have had had my PC 'hacked' several times in the past six months. A decidely upleasant thing that.
I certainly wouldn't want to bear the brunt of some angry and disgruntled twit with more money than sense, who is incapable of hitting the right target.

Thanks for all the info and advice and such...

The good news is I'm back from a very successful GenCon to find that the hacker hasn't gotten through my new security once. So he's either given up on us or what we did definatly improved things- probably both. Yeah!

I do notice though that a lot of foreign customers are having problems getting their cards to work for RPGNow sales... Many look like they are valid as they are for small amounts and not attempted 10+ times... This is sad that we have to alienate valid customers because of other a$$holes on this earth.

Oh well... Guess what was waiting in my mail box when I got home? 3 more chargebacks for $9, $10, and $35. What joy.

I've had one case of fraud come up on my card wherein the same person charged two things from different companies to my card. I contacted the companies and then my card provider. The card provider cancelled the orders, didn't charge me the fee for the cancellations or for the original transactions, and they also pursued the companies to give the delivery info on the criminal. They recently contacted me to let me know the guy was being charged.

I guess it depends on who your card is with as much as anything else. I mean, my limit is only $300 (I only use it for online ordering, so I keep a low max on it) and yet they still went all guns blazing for me.

I've had my main server hacked twice. In one case, they downloaded what looked like my master files containing all my business data, and instead downloaded a rather rabid, self-destructing virus. Not my fault. It was there in a "decontamination file" and not for dissimentation.
I've also contemplated using CPU ID # checker programs to lock files too, with self destruct coding.

As for incapable of hitting the right target, that's why you would use professionals, not crackheads.

Still, if I was losing thousands of dollars a month, the price of a pro wouldn't be that much in comparison.

On a less militant side, I would also advise contacting the companies and seeing exactly what makes it legal for them to charge you for hacked cards, and check with other companies to see if they have the same stipulations.

You might want to consider changing to another service.
