Rant: Flavor restrictions

Regarding the Monk & Paladin restrictions. These actually were not in 3E originally, apparently. The playtesters were the ones who cried for them to be put in (or at least put back in).

Really, if you have a problem with them, change it. Blaming "them" for leaving them as the default in 3E is avoiding the issue. You obviously aren't enjoying the DM, do something about that. The DM makes his choices, sometimes the choices are to play the rules "as is." You'd still be annoyed if that wasn't the default rule, but the way the DM decided to play it.

i never understood why druids, a class based on Celtic folklore, are always proficient with the scimitar, a martial weapon of Arab design.
Back in 1e, the scimitar was supposed to represent any curved blade, I believe. Thus the druids got scimitars to represent their sickles (and the sickle is *definitely* druidic). In later editions, druids kept scimitars out of tradition.

You should have said, "Bad DM! No TPK!"

"Not you, silly bird. .... Uh, player." :)

Edit: forgot to reply to the main post.
Of course a druid shouldn't lose his powers because he hurled a rock. That DM decision ... wait, let me put this in a polite way ... uh ... borders on the childish.

Since when is metal an unnatural thing?

Well actually, other than meteoric iron, gold, silver, and copper, you will not find any metals naturally ocurring. Certainly you won't find either bronze or steel lying about. Metals have to be processed from ores via reduction, and then forged or casted into useful forms. That could be considered rather unnatural.

Though I'm rather indifferent as to druid weapons in any case. Never cared much for the tree huggers myself.

Yeah, the curvy sword is because of the moon motif, which also bleeds into their pseudo-lycanthropy and makes them decent witchlike men/women of the woods.

It's fun.

But, yeah, I think Druids can use any weapon they're proficient in. They start with the listed ones, but a fighter/druid can use a greatsword if they so please.

Then, in my mind, druids don't have to equal natural. Refining, tools, etc. can be as natural as huggin' a tree.

But I think that we are missing the main point of the post.

Sure we can Rule Zero them out (and I have in my world) - but the fact is that they are in the PHB and therefore official so such things as Living Greyhawk are now bound to them.

I agree they should be errated out and then placed in as an optional "flavor" rule.
