Everyonce in a while I wander through toy stores and see all the scary stuff. Let's see there is the Spidey power armor, Baseball Spidey, Basketball Spidey, SCUBA Spidey and the all important Hulk car. :)

I always get a disturbed laugh out of it.

Is it just me or are those toys pointless, and if I'm not mistaken it's voiced by stan lee. Please! :\
Yes, you are right to take offense at these toys. It's important that children have toys that support the Spiderman canon. If they play with these toys, they will have a distorted view of the fictional history of a fictional character. I shall write a stern letter to my congressman posthaste.

I'm not as disturbed by the toys as by the advertising that goes along with them. At least here in New Zealand, I've seen one ad that is probably the worst of all time. It's advertising some sort of transforming Spidey series, which is utterly nonsensical but I'll forgive that as shameless merchandising.

But when the announcer intones 'the evil Rhino', making Rhino rhyme with Minnow, or informs you that 'Spider-Man turns into a powerful bird', and the toy morphs into something that certainly looks like a bat, what with the ears and all... well, that's just apocalyptically stupid. I mean, the announcer sounds like he can speak English, but the evidence is not too great in the favour of anyone associated with the ad in question.

Has anyone else encountered this weirdness, or is it localised to my neighbourhood of R'lyeh?

Spiderman would never be caught dead in that car. As any child of the 70's can tell you, the only car Ol' Web Head would drive is a vintage Mego Amazing Spider-Car! http://www.megomuseum.com/play/spidcar.shtml ;)

Ahhh...my childhood flashes before my eyes.

That car rocked...[sniffle]

but I can't help but think that all the creators thought about was making money.
If you had thought anything else, then I'd probably have said that there's something wrong with you.

I'm not trying to ban the toy, I wouldn't grab one off of a kid in the street and smash it (no more then any other toy :]... :heh: ).

I'd never doubt that the merchendice is made to make money, but the fact that they are selling something that makes no sense rather obviously.

To me it'd be like making the beholder an action figure and giving it a car.
