iirc, Rao is the god of peace and reconciliation, and his clerics are known for being nonviolent. That might be an overgeneralization on my part, but its the gist of what he stands for. More information on Rao can be found in the Living Greyhawk Gazeteer or, if you'll settle for non-canon (but still rather good) information, try www.canonfire.com

Rao the Bringer of Peace and Serenity

I once played in a game where the multiclassing rules were a little 'relaxed'. I took the Kane in Kung-fu route and went Cleric/Monk with my Raoian. He was a total pacifist and purely defensive combatant. I played him as this total intellectual on a quest for pure enlightenment.

I was also part of another campaign once where one of the major Military organizations was an order of Rao based Inquisitor/Crusader/Hospitilar types. they were pretty cool, but kind of a bad guy organization. We called them "Bleeding HEarts" derogatorily.

Also, IIRC, Rao is big on the whole ANti Demon thing. I believe the Crook of Rao was responsible for ridding the world of Greyhawk of all of it's Demons or some such.

I think if given the choice, and multiclassing were not an issue a Cleric/Paladin/Monk of Rao dedicated to wandering the earth killing demons and performing exorcism would be kind of cool to play. I would probably dress him up a bit with Sacred Exorcist and insist that the GM play with cool exorcism rules.

Again, Canonfire is your best bet for cheap info. One particular piece I can point you to is an article in one of the Best of Greyhawk PDF's (downloadable from Canonfire), issue #9.

Also, I think the next issue of the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer in Polyhedron is going to have an article by Gary Holian about paladins of various gods in Greyhawk and I think Rao might get a mention.

Now if you're willing to hunt references and pay some cash then I'd suggest getting one of the OOP Grreyhawk books, namely The Marklands which deals with Veluna, the nation that holds Rao as the state religion and where the Crook of Rao, potentially the most powerful artifact in existance on ANY world (which is why some people think it's so lame, that and there was never an adventure made to retrieve it, it was just said, "And lo, it was welt, and thusly the fiends were smoten!").

Umm... what else... OH, YEAH! I almost forgot, today is Greychat! Come to chat.psionics.net (the same network the EN World's chat room is on) and join the channel #Greytalk. I think the chat starts around 8 or 9 EST though I'm not American so I'm not sure about the US start time.

Eh, to be honest, I wouldn't know. This is just what everybody else who does claim to know whinges about, saying that Roger Moore did too much (boom-tish!)...

The last module EGG wrote for TSR was Isle of the Ape, and it was Tenser that sent the party on the quest.
