Rapid Strikes?

Greetings. I've decided to bump haste to 4th level IMC, and to compensate I want to add a spell I've heard of called rapid strikes to the sorcerer/wizard spell lists. I know that it is 2nd level and allows a single extra attack per round by the recipient, but I don't have ready access to Dragon magazine #275. Can anyone do me a big, big favor and post the spell in its entirety? :)

Eh, I wouldn't say that. People post rules, spells, feats, etc all the time in this forum to support their arguments. I don't see the difference in just asking for the information politely :)

Haste could stay at level 3. It gives you an extra partial action, NOT an extra attack.

So if a person does have rapid strikes, and decide to attack and move, I'm not so sure if he can use that extra attack.

Secondly, a person in haste would have more versatility. I can understand you wanting to bump it to 4th level, but then you would have to consider other spells in the 4th level that might need to go up or down.

For simplicity and so that you don't have to worry, leave Haste as is.

Find the dragon mag for rapid strikes and test it out with the group.

Also if you do bump haste to 4th and decide to use a prepared module or adventure, what happens when they have haste? You'd need to substitute it with something else and just takes more time.

The tyrant needs his subjects, though he abuses them. If you think companies are getting too tyrannical in their copyright protection, just forget about them and start making stuff up yourself. We have a lot more freedom in this respect than in other media, because roleplaying games more than any other kind of media-based entertainment are "user-serviceable."

In short, if you like the spell just write one that works that way.

Thanks for the insight, though I think you guys have gotten a bit too cerebral for a simple request. :)

I posted this on Monte's boards too and someone was nice enough to give me the spell info. Woot!

Cool spell. It won't stack with Haste though, so you don't have to worry about messing with the spell level of Haste.

To clarify, myself and another DM I game with agree that haste is just a tad too powerful as a 3rd-level spell, much the same way that shield is a bit too powerful for a 1st-level spell. Given that I've also decided to use Monte's alt.sorcerer in my campaign, a class that gets haste at 4th level vice 3rd, I've just decided to take the plunge and bump it up to 4th for the other arcane class in my game (the wu jen) before the campaign really gets rolling. After having played with haste for a year now, I feel like I'm making this decision in a well-informed manner.

Rapid strikes, then, will be a nice offset.

The new Dragon, #300, has a back order form for Dragon magazines back to issue #274 at $6.00 an issue. They may still have a copy of #275 if you are lucky.
