Rappan Athuk Reloaded at DTRPG.COM

I'd like to know how many people who had faith in Amazon.com lost out. I got mine for $22.04 (with free 2-day shipping, natch). It seemed like most of us who pre-ordered from Amazon.com also got ours before many of those who ordered from WW. It seems to me that it was those who believed you that Amazon.com wouldn't deliver were the ones who lost out. (Similarly, those who don't think that Amazon.com would honor the Ptolus prices and preordered because they didn't think Amazon.com would have it also lost out)

I ordered from WW because I wanted to be 100% sure I got a copy. Amazon has always been a crap shoot for smaller releases. I can't even keep track of how many times Amazon posted crazy prices for RPG products only to cancel the order when they found out the actual price. There have been tons of threads like this over the last few years.

I was willing to pay extra to be 100% sure that I got this product. I suppose I could have ordered one from WW for me and a few from Amazon for sale in the secondary market, but that didn't seem right or fair.

I haven't recieved it yet, John. I think we should see it soon, since RA:R has now been "officially" released.

It does rock by the way!
Got a copy here at GenCon and I am one pleased fan!

OMG! The Flumph area! Not "push over" creatures anymore!

Plus I like the mechanics that Greg Regland came up with to handle the mazes. Plus any maze type lair.

Cool new stuff!

Sweet redone stuff!

Do you know if they sold out of the copies that they bought to gen con with them and about how many copies did they bring?

I think the biggest flaw in your reasoning/argument is that you seem to think there is a comparison between the print products value and a pdf. There isn't. That is like thinking a pdf copy of Superman number #1 would sell for $30,000.00. You might get people to buy it for a couple of dollars.

You know I pre-ordered RA:R, so I get this pdf for free as part of the pre-order deal. I think if you don't go with Bill on this, well, I already said I completely disagree with you.
Sadly, $50+ for a PDF is totally unreasonable to me, and I'm not hurting for cash when it comes to gaming material. (In other words, I'm happy to blow $50 for, for ex, A Game of Thrones d20 hardcover.) $50+ for a PDF, though? No way.

I agree with Tree and others....if it was even $10 - 15 less, it'd be a consideration, but as-is, I can convert the 3.0 modules on my own as I need it.

I try to support Necro as much as I can, but that's a little too far, sorry.

I'm pretty sure it was 100 copies to Gen Con, 10 comps, 90 sold. What is in distribution is what is left.

The way to get people to go to you directly is to provide freebies that can't be had. The free pdfs are one great way to reward early preorders.

Amazon had to get it through Alliance then, and they took a major loss on your order. If you buy a lot of products from Amazon they were probably willing to do that. Amazon does rate its buyers based on frequency, etc. It is entirely possible that some people will still get it on Amazon orders while others will not.

Again, for Amazon to sell it to you at that price, they took quite a hit. They had to get it through regular distribution just like any LGS and paid MUCH more than $22 for it.

Patrick

Edit: I believe I actually said something about Amazon possibly taking a loss and filling some orders for certain customers in one of those threads where we got flamed for not selling direct to Amazon. I know I said that Amazon CAN get it from Alliance but that I doubted they would want to take that kind of loss. As far as Ptolus, well, they can get that through Alliance too I suppose, but depending on the price they had it at, they'll take quite a hit on it.

The pricing discussion Bill and Stewart had indicated the price for the entire set would drop. I don't know what the price for the map pack alone is right now, but it sounded like they were talking about dropping that too.

Clark is right about this being a limited edition product from the beginning. I don't think he and Bill have actually discussed pricing on the .pdf though. Bill is still in Indy. Don't expect any changes right away.

<sigh> How come whenever I seem to pre-order something from Amazon.com, they either cancel the order, or go a month after it comes out without receiving any?

And when I don't, they not only offer a fanastic price, but get lots of copies of a supposedly super-rare, super-exlusive product.
