What that means, as we warned, is that discount online retailers wont be getting any.

This is not mismanagement, it is absolute 100% perfect management.
Easy does it there, Orcus. When I used the word "mismanagement", I was clearly not referring to the above.

Sorry about that. I didnt mean to seem rant-ish.

I've just had some people griping about this product. And everyone seems to be forgetting this was designed as a "limited edition" collector's item. It was not meant for mass distribution to everyone. It is the kind of thing that if you want, you have to act quickly to get. You dont print 3000+ copies of a limited edition collector's item that has cards and numbers and stuff like that. This was a very special, unique product.

And for those who complain they won't get a bargain out of this...there's always still ebay. Like this. Actually selling off a pre-order.

Oh, and while I'm sticking my head into this crossfire-ridden battlefield...is there any chance Tomb of Abysthor might see another print run at some point? I've been trying to locate it, but neither my FLGS, nor the online store that still listed it as "available" have been able to deliver so far. :(

I have never seen a copy either. You can get a PDF of it from drivethrurpg.com , which is what I did. Although I hate running games from a laptop, so if a 3.5 version were ever printed, I would buy it in a heartbeat... However I suspect that if an update is ever done, it will be another pdf. :\

Heh. You do realize that's a good thing, right? It's because of the popularity of this product. Be happy about people griping, not upset.

Yeah, I'm gathering that, from what you (and freebfrost, who made very convincing arguments) are saying. ;)

However, as a professional accountant, economic consultant, and certified business analyst with a marketing background, the concept of a business doing such a thing is quite alien to me...!

You can get RARE. You have to go to your local game store (friendly or not) and ask them to order it for you from Alliance.

What that means, as we warned, is that discount online retailers wont be getting any.

This is not mismanagement, it is absolute 100% perfect management.

So RARE is available. Just go to your store and ask for it.

I've been kind of confused about that mindset the last while...I mean I constantly see people bitching and moaning here that they are entitled to massive, massive discounts if the Publishers/FLGS/seller in general intends to retain their business.

Now, I know Amazon sells cheap, but is there really a feeling in the US that consumer goods need to be in a constant state of Fire Sale Discount?

I mean comments (and veiled threats) like...

I pre-ordered on Amazon and now that they won't be getting any copies, I'll just go ahead and cancel the whole order (which includes other WW products, i.e., Bard's Gate).

or outright misrepresentations like...

Or maybe said company could deliver its product in a manner consistent with its promises. I don't seem to recall hearing the RAR would only be available through WW. And I don't particularly like the idea of being held hostage to being required to buy through a particular distributor, especially when all indications were that this would not be the case

and, the granddaddy of them all...

But it wasn't available to those people who didn't want to have to go out of their usual buying methods. Some people only buy from Amazon or their FLGS or etc., Apparently Necromancer should be catering to these people, even if it means they lose several thousand dollars in doing so. They owe them that at least.

:\

I mean honestly, what I am asking is: does the Amercan consumer today believe in their heart of hearts that they deserve to buy things at a massive discount.

Not that it'd be "nice to find a sale", or that they might "wait for a sale on somehting they can't afford"...but that they are somehow entitled to pay a retail price that would drive a Publisher out of business every moment of every day?

Well, apparently that attitude is more widely spread than some would like to believe. And not just on roleplaying books, either.

Actually, I recall last year, when there was a big scandal here in Germany about rotten meat being sold all over the country, where the biggest reason for that was identified as the constant "discount war" several supermarket chains here are waging with meat, and the pressure it puts on the small-to-medium meat processing firms (read "industrial butcheries") to cut every corner and sell every scrap of meat as cheap as possible. The result of one of the ministers pointing that out was an outcry among the consumers, that they were entitled to good quality meat, even if it was cheap as dirt.

Sometimes, greed in the wrong place simply comes back to bite you.

What booth will RAR be sold at in Gencon. Is it the white wolf booth 1601 I think or is there a separate necromancer booth. If so, which one is it (ie: what number).
Cheers guys,
Sam

I know I forgot to include the question marks, but could someone in the know please answer my question?
Cheers,
Sam

There's the problem.

The Accountant and Economist in your trumps the Marketer every time. Something about costs or guns-n-butter or some such. I recommend getting an MBA - we have no such problem ignoring the reality of mathematical precision in lieu of gut instincts!

Unfortunately, that is becoming the prevalent attitude. I suspect it is largely the result of the discount big box stores (Wal-mart, Best Buy, etc.) who came in with such low pricing that it hurt the smaller retailer and, consequently, trained a whole generation that "it must be cheap or I won't buy it." :(
