I would say psychologically, rather than philosophically.

Saw it this weekend. I liked it, but it's a movie that thinks awfully highly of itself. The acting is great, the movie looked great. But it did take its time in getting where it was going. Like, maybe only have two scenes of Arthur Fleck in his underwear instead of five. At the same time, the slow build where you feel like you're inching closer and closer to the precipice was incredibly tense.

I view it as an extension of Nolan's The Dark Knight series. It's a comic book movie without the comic book - even moreso than Nolan's films. While I'm glad that it exists, and works, in contrast to Marvel's approach, I'm not sure it doesn't miss out on something essential by distancing itself from the source material.

[Flexor the Mighty!]

I quite liked it and will get it on BR when it comes out. A refreshing comic movie compared to the usual genre tripe like the last Avengers flick. Some issues here and there but I'm glad I went and saw it at the theater, which is something I rarely do anymore. I'm a Batman fan and was glad to see a take like that.

Now lets have a Batman flick that is focused on the Dark Knight DETECTIVE. A real street level superhero crime flick with that focus of the character at the center. Nolan's flicks IMO did not age well though they had an amazing Joker.
