It was a good movie, started out a little slow but really picked it up in the second half. They had great little jokes in there, most of a wider variety then the first. THe first is still better, but not by much. 4 stars

Okay, Crothian, you need to not be so good at writing reviews.

I read yours and had nothing to add.
:p

Took the whole family to see it on Sunday. Great, great movie. Like PC says, there are lots of sometimes very subtle jokes spiced throughout the film. One of my favorites were some of the stores in downtown Far, Far Away, like "Versarchery". The Mission Impossible joke was another.

Both John Cleese and Antonio Banderas completely nail their roles, and Puss-in-Boots is hilarious. Jennifer Saunders does a (have to say it) absolutely fabulous job.

It was great that both kids and adults could equally enjoy the movie. And I was very glad that they kept a few suprises out of the trailers. I knew one effect of
the potion would change Donkey, and in the commercial you know Fiona gets changed...but I didn't expect a human Shrek. And I was glad they didn't try to suddenly generate a Three's Company-esque misunderstanding. It worked last time, but if they did it again here, it would'nt have been as effective

Big Thumbs up. This summer movie season is off to a good start, IMHO.

I liked it quite a bit. My only complaint was not enough Fiona. 4 stars. (I would give Shrek 5. - Hallelujah was I think the tipping point.)

The Auld Grump, who watched the first Shrek again tonight... :)

I really enjoyed it. Puss-in-boots stole every scene he was in. I think I liked it a little less than the first, but considering how good the first one was...

Shrek 2 seemed more over-the-top with the cultural reference/disney jokes. Almost seemed like they tried to hard. And while the sound track was great, the first movie's was better.

But, it was still a great movie. 4 stars.

You're a horrible person. ;)

5 Stars from me. I loved this movie. In fact, I want to go see it a few(hundred) more times. Its like the first one in that you can just keep watching it and still enjoy it. THIS is how kid's movies should be...we need more of em like this!

One of the great movie jokes was the Indianna Jones reference. I'd just watched Temple of Doom yesterday afternoon, and then going to the theater that night and seeing
Puss in Boots(great character) nearly lose his hat in the potion room JUST like Jones in ToD just addded to the fun.

Oh, and anyone else even slightly interested in that Shark Tale movie? Saw a preview for it, looks similar to Finding Nemo(in the fish sense) and pretty good cast.

Somewhat interested, especially as it looks like a family film I could enjoy with the kids...although it seems like it's missing something, and I'm not sure what. I'm not anticipating it like The Incredibles, for example. it might be the premise, which seems kind of by-the-numbers somehow, but it does have a good cast, so I'm willing to see it. I just think that they're going to suffer from comparisons to Nemo...and quite frankly, I think Nemo looked nicer. From the trailer, Shrek impressed me with some of it's visuals, but the trailer for Shark Tale didn't really strike me as visually stunning. Either way, I'm more than willing to give them a chance.

I think what it's missing is Pixar magic. Granted, Shrek isn't pixar either, but I agree about the Sharks movie. Doesn't seem to have 'it' like all the pixar movies have.

Just my thinking, though.

Oh, one last thing, what's with all the kids in the audience? Yeah, I know it's an animated show and all, but there was a good bit of innuedo and a lot of jokes that kids REALLY shouldn't have gotten.

And, if it was done well (which I think it was), the kids don't even notice that they're there. Those things are intended for the adults who are (hopefully) accompanying their tykes to the theatre.

And, actually, those are the things that are making the movie sell so well, I expect. While kids love the movie, and will drive the merchandising, I get the feeling that the ticket sales wil be dominated by adults, not kids.

As for the Shark's Tale - I'll have to admit that based on the trailers I saw and the information I heard on the internet, I thought that "Finding Nemo" was going to be Pixar's first flop. I'm happy that I was wrong about that. In short - don't depend upon a trailer to tell you if a movie's "got it" or not.

I pretty much agreed with Dimwhit, but gave it only two stars. I think my expectations were too high. And
the final dance number--La Vida Loca? That's five years old (two years *before* the first Shrek came out!)--it seemed to "date" the movie (in a bad way) right away. I wish they'd taken another "classic" song (like the first film), not some relatively recent pop crap.
