2. A dreadful movie that deserves its universally bad reviews. However, I was not surprised, and certainly got what I expected.

8... the character was well portrayed and the addition of many classic characters from the comics made it even better.

I plan to buy it on DVD for what it's worth.

I finally watched this film. I was disappointed once again. It wasn't so much a bad film, but The Punisher is such a great concept that I expect more.

I would like to see the film include the element of fate. That is one thing I always liked about the story. The idea that this madman starts offing some of the cities crime lords because of the accidental killing of his family. When dealing with this story, the screen writer should ask: What would a crime boss do if a madman with a skull on his chest started whacking his people for no discernible reason? Then go from there. It's the element of fate that makes the original punisher scenario seem really cool.

I would also like the movie to be more a character study into the mad mind of Frank Castle. A cross between Taxi Driver and Mad Max would be what I would like to think of while watching a Punisher movie. An intense character driven movie with a compelling reason for the kind of vengeance the Punisher seeks. This movie was lacking.

It didn't help that Thomas Jane is not a very good actor with his face. His expressions were off and he didn't have the intensity I expect in the eyes of the Punisher. He did have the build for the Punisher, just not the face. His voice wasn't bad, but he was just lacking something that I expect in the character. A brooding intensity bordering psychosis is what I expect, and I didn't get that from this character.

Oh well, maybe someday they make a really good Punisher movie. I'm still waiting.

I really enjoyed it. I gave it a 7 (way back when this thread was new).

As for the DVD, I was disappointed that the additional 1/2 hour dealing with Castle's betrayal by his former partner, Jimmy Weeks werewn't included. The scenes were shot and would have been nice if they were in the Deleted Scenes.

BTW, is there any difference between the regular DVDs and the one's with the comic included (I mean besides the comic of course)? :) I've heard it referred to as the "special edition". I'm hoping that there aren't more extras in that version. I hate when companies do things like that.

I just watched it last night, and I gave it a 6: Not great, but not unwatchable. It was mediocre, in that the plot TRIES to get other characters involved, but really does not do a good job of it. A few small plot holes, and the lack of chemistry between characters, and a IMHO truly poor performance by Travolta, add up to a movie with some good moments, but nothing that makes you want to grab people on the street and say "Go rent this movie."
