D&D 5E Rate Your 5E Rules Expertise

I know a lot of the rules in core 14 and Tasha’s and such and I am comfortable adding in stuff like 4e skill challenges or turning a 5e monster into a 4e style elite or solo and making stuff up that works in 5e, but I look core rules up all the time for specifics.

I don’t know every rule in 5e by heart but that also wouldn’t stop me from modifying it.

6.5, so voted 7. I've worked with @DND_Reborn and @Smythe the Bard for a few years now on creating hundreds of pages of house-rules and homebrew. We've thought about maybe getting something to the point for publishing, but life happens so we haven't gotten there yet.

I don't think publishing has anything to do with rules mastery.

I'd rate myself at an 8 or 9 if not for that.

What does "50% mastery" look like, for you?

I consider myself well versed in the structure, framework, and spirit of the rules so that I can make rulings without much pausing in the game even if I forget the exact rule.

I am also confident in the tweaks that I've made that remain in line with the spirit while serving my table.

I know them pretty well, but to me that is unrelated to "and I'm comfortable creating my own rules..." One of the first things that happens whenever I pick up any TTRPG is that I start tinkering with it.

What does "50% mastery" look like, for you?

I know the basics of the game, which is enough to play solo, but for group play, I would need to acquire more knowledge about chosen sub-classes, feats, spells and related rules in the DMG.

What does "50% mastery" look like, for you?

Not them but for me I am only about 240 pages into my read through of the 400 page 2024 PH, and I don't have the new DMG or MM. I just finished the A spells last night, it is a long book and I have about a hundred more pages of spells to go through.

I feel I have a decent handle on the 24 classes, races, backgrounds, and feats so far but not intimate mastery that actual use would provide as I have not been in a 24 game yet so I would have to look up the specifics of weapon masteries and I am probably not considering a bunch of their interaction implications compared to the 14 5e I am used to. I am wondering how much the new rules glossary actually covers, so far I have only skipped ahead to there to try and figure out how 24 handles spell emanations on a grid (it did not really answer my question). I also am not sure how much new rules stuff is in the new DMG and how it compares to the 14 DMG which I am familiar with. A lot of the 24 DMG discussions I have been a part of focused on nonrule stuff like Greyhawk and the Gods.
