Ravenloft Boardgame?

Name a few. :)!

Descent is pretty solid, although it doesn't have the same Horror feel that a good Ravenloft BG should have. There are others but Descent is the one I've played a lot of. I'm curious to try the Ravenloft game, but I suspect there are several other games on my list to acquire that will be ahead of it (Small World for one.)

I really enjoy Descent - indeed, I have all the expansions - but it has a major problem: 3-4 hour playing time. It - unfortunately - falls into that dilemma of "why aren't I playing 4e instead?"

Castle Ravenloft fits into that really nice gametime of 60-90 minutes from what I hear: good when waiting for a late player to turn up, or as one of an afternoon of boardgames.

Cheers!

FWIW, this hasn't really struck me as a very Ravenloft the campaign setting sort of work and much more of an I6 Ravenloft the module sort of thing. IE, its a castle, with a vampire at its center, and not a realm of dread and despair.

The other important thing about Ravenloft is that it's a co-op game, which is very distinct from most other games of this type. In many ways, it seems to take the mechanics from Warhammer Quest, which if you know me, is a very good thing. I'm definitely picking it up, which is good because I haven't bought something from WotC in quite a while...

Warhammer Quest: Most like the Ravenloft game but sadly out-of-print.

Descent: More expensive and crunchier than Ravenloft.

Dungeonquest: Just re-released in non-Games-Workshop form. Fills the "Waiting for someone to show" slot and requires less in the way of setup than Ravenloft.

Runebound: Technically not a dungeoncrawl as much as a mapcrawl game, but fills the same genre of heroes w/items kill monsters and take their loot.

Betrayal at House on the Hill: Technically dungeoncrawl is replaced with hauntedhousecrawl, but the elements of a fun dungeon crawl game are all in there.

These are just the games I have played...there are more out there.

I played this with some of the WotC guys at a bar at Gen Con, and I had an absolute BLAST.

I thought this was really, really, really fun, and that's coming from someone who is by no means a fan of 4th edition.

I broke it down like this: D&D + Dungeon! + Betrayal at House on the Hill + 42 minis in one box = WIN.

I am definitely going to buy this game and probably the next one in the series as well. I really had a good time with it.
