Ravenloft - Denizens of Darkness - comments?

I got the book last week and I really like it. One thing I noticed though is that a good number of the creatures have a mini-adventure feel about them.

They are not so much monsters as they are foes. To me at least this means you will get one or two good uses out of them then they might appear a bit stale. Good examples are the snake woman, the assasin creatures that can remove their limbs, and the seducing manthing.

Sorry I dont have my book with me so I cannot look up their specific names.

One creature I do plan on using (he will make a great mid term villian) is the classic monster under the bridge the Dread Troll. It is baically the fairy tale troll that hides under the bridge. All the powers of a troll as well as being smart and devious. Hehehe

Aw, heck, I feel that way about a lot of of the stuff in the Monster Manual. How many manticores can you fight before it gets boring?

The only foes that stay interesting all through the levels - at least IMHO - are people. Humans, orcs, elves, dwarves...classed humanoids are the best as far as I'm concerned. Monsters are just an occasional break.

Point taken. I guess you also have to look at the horror aspect of Ravenloft. There are only so many times you can use werewolves before they lose any effect on the PC's.

As a note I like Ravenloft. I have all of the d20 books for Ravenloft.

The book is good in my opinion, but you can see the the White Wolf influence on the book.

Does it provide uses for the Lebentod's limb removal power?

Are Greater wolfweres as badass as in 2e?

I'm psyched that Ermordenungs are now a template, that should work well.

Is the sentinel bat no longer an option, they were cool!

No strahd zombies or skeletons :(

Nightfall,

Thanks for posting the critter list, it is much appreciated.
