It would be funny if in the future Stranger Things a new group of characters played their homemade version of Dragonlance and if if "zoomer" is a class in that game then the players from the real life will create the homemade version of zoomer class.

My hypothesis is no news about Dragonlance until the cinematographic production because the team of scriptwriters could suggest changes in the lore and then the best option could be to await to avoid possible contradictions. For example if the ursines could be good to sell more action-figures then we will see more ursines in each epidose although in the original continuity they weren't so common.

Krynnian goliaths could be the local version of half-ogres.

I don't think that's the kind of slavery that WotC would be shy of, in particular if they made leading a revolt a big part of the plot.
I don’t think WotC will be shy of slavery, no. I just think implying “you get to be a slave!” Is a really really bad marketing strategy. “Season of Liberation” would be a far better tag line for that approach.

Although I think they will market it as Fantasy Fallout.

Something else just occurred to me: they might have decided to hand Dark Sun over to a 3rd party like they did Exodus.

Could be they will take the First World echoes idea from Fizban's and the DMG and apply it to Ravenloft...Soth is both in Ravenloft and on Krynn, before, during, and after the War of the Lance...all in different ways in different Echoes.
The timeline is all messed up anyway if you move between settings.

But Soth in Ravenloft isn’t the problem, Sithicus is. A setting heavy in obscure lore built to tell a specific story? I can’t see any reason WotC would want to put that back, given their renewed focus on content for play rather than content to read. It’s my opinion that additional content in the new book with focus on expanding the setting’s focus to other subgenres beyond gothic with completely new domains.

Didn’t seem to hurt the sales of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Video game. Plays by different engagement. Lots of people love Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and playing Cloud etc. I'm not sure how many. Would want to play FF7 beat for beat on paper using Cloud, Tifa and Aerith pregens as their characters. Different audience, different expectations.

(Besides, you still get to make your primary character in BG3. The hyper specificity of the rest is a function of video game limitations. Not really comparable.)

I'm not unconvinced that they MAY go with a Hunger Games approach: you are chosen (willing and not) to serve a particular City State/King in a contest where the winner gets resources for their people. Some are slaves. Some choose to represent their people. Some act out of fear, loyalty, or compassion. And some see it as a ticket to freedom, power, or luxury. Not saying that is what they are doing, but it IS an option for a story besides "kill the dragon kings"...

I am not the biggest Dark Sun fan with only a surface level understanding of the setting but that sounds like a very cool and workable idea for a post-apocalyptic D&D setting.
