Ravenloft: The Horrors Within

Ravenloft: The Horrors Within Announced, Release Date Scheduled for June 2026

Yes, it certainly seems to be from one of the new products.

The most likely explanation is that they are working Lord Soth back into Ravenloft in a "canon-be-fanned" rule of cool way that has a passing little to do with earlier versions, and the marketing director thought this piece is Rad.

But "The Season of Champions" right next to that image being about Dragonlance would also make sense.

Maybe...both. Have their cake and eat it, too, with a marketable action figure caliber villain.
I do not think the placement of the figure has anything to do with where Soth is appearing in the release calendar. It’s more likely it was just placed there because that was the negative space that needed filling.

Now I am thinking about the Krynnian aasimars could be the offspring of the irdas (the bloodline that wasn't tainted).

WotC has to choose what to do with the continuity after the "war of the souls". My hope is the famous heroes of the lance to be ascended into "legendary heroes", practically quasigods. (and could Raitslin to become a vestige patron?).

Sithicus can be perfect place if you want to survive an undead apocalypse where the monsters are controled by the dark-lord. It can be also a right place for half-vistani (or "vistani-touched", human children who were adopted, not kidnapped, because the seers discovered something about their future). Vampire kenders can be perfect for horror stories with some piece of dark comedy.

* Do you think a rewritting of the original Dragonlance modules could be possible?

* Other idea is the Krynnspace where Raitslin caused the cataclysm suffering an attempt of invasion by the Voldoni empire (a faction from Spelljammer) and here the reaction by the divine necromancer would be the return toward the life of the gnomes with their crazy inventions. And in this timeline his half-irda daughter is real. In the end, he accepts the sacrifice for his daughter, and she achieves a happy ending with many descendants.

Crysania Tarinius could be the main character of her own story of second opportunity. The god Raistlin is sent to the Athaspace where he loses his divine power. Then the mystic Crysania Tarinius is allowed to travel there where she can use psionic powers. She is an "ardent" (like a psionic cleric) and she helps Raistlin to survive and to start a new life. Raitslin rediscovers the lost arts of life-shaping, becoming a "haruspex"(the biopunk cousin of the necromancer). The surprise is also a "piece" of Crysania is reborn as a female irda in the past, becoming the future mother of Raistlin's daguther. OK, it is a crazy idea.

* Dragonlance is not a good settings for sourcebooks too focused into crunch or player options. But it could be fabulous for a family-friendly LEGO adaptation like a CGI animated show or a videogame with that dumb and innocent humor. (you can imagine Tas breaking the 4th wall and like this).

* If there is an update of Dark Sun then we should see a future UA article about Athasian PC species the tari(ratfolk), Athasian genasi(ember, magma, sun and sand), elflings and the mulzhennedars(muls).

So, these are from the upcoming D&D Encyclopedia made by DK for children:

WotC is definitely keeping that Dragonlance flame alive...

it was undoubtedly cropped from a larger image. However, there don’t seem to be any images showing his decayed face since 1985, which was a different style with an open-face helmet, and changed to the current bucket helmet and armor style in 1986. So, unless anyone knows better, the original image must be from one of the upcoming books.
Isn't the cover of the 1987 Dragonlance Adventures book supposed to be showing Lord Soth without his helmet? That certainly looks like Tanis snatching the crown of power, which suggests that the figure in the background is supposed to be Soth.

Doesn’t look like Soth or his helmet. His bucket helmet with its spikes and plume was established by then. And a much bigger sword. And are those bat wings?

I agree it doesn't look like Soth (and the bat wings are especially odd), but the full version of the picture seems like that scene from Dragons of Spring Dawning where Tanis kills Ariakas and takes the crown of power before Soth can (EDIT: there's some interesting stuff about this over on this Stack Exchange page):

It looks like Eastly was using a lich illustration as his reference material. It’s hard to gauge when illustrations were actually created, or how efficient TSR were in supplying reference images to artists!

Tanis has a rather finer beard than usual here too!
