Ray of Frost, Scorching Burst and Phantom Bolt are Dead

How about splitting the difference and making it 2d4? Give the poor unappreciated d4's something to do now that they aren't needed for Magic Missile anymore.

Oddly, that would be a nerf for some wizards! Enlarge Spell (every pyromancer's favourite feat) has a penalty to damage that scales with number of dice, so that the enlarged Scorching Burst would actually deal less damage under your version.

Upgrading Scorching Burst is easy - just change the damage type on Freezing Burst from cold to fire, scratch out "Freezing" and write in "Scorching," and you're good to go.

I don't have the Red Box, so I don't know what Stoneblood does.

I know that scorching burst is thrashed by other AOE at-wills.

I'm not sure what exactly is beating out ray of frost or phantom bolt in their respective niches?

Ray of Frost
Attack: Two attack rolls. Int vs Reflex and Int vs Fortitude.Hit Once: 1d6+Int Modifier, and target is slowed until the end of your next turn.Hit Twice: As hit once, plus target is considered grabbed by you. If the target tries to break using Strength or Athletics, use the higher of your Fortitude or Will defense instead of just Fortitude.Scorching BurstAttack: Int vs ReflexHit: 1d6+Int mod damage.
Effect: All creatures in burst gain vulnerability fire 5.

Phantom Bolt
Attack: Int vs WillHit: 1d6+Int mod psychic damage, and you slide the target Charisma modifier spaces. Then slide all creatures adjacent to the creature 1 space.
