I'm still kind of fond of the old 2e version.

(Sorry for the quality of this, but it was the best one I could find.)

I forgot how good they looked in 2E, at least when properly drawn.

I think WotC is generally too prone to anthropomorphize the more alien races (see: dragonboobs). I understand wanting to make the races look more attractive overall; removing beards from female dwarves was a good move, for instance. But past a certain point, I think you just have to deal with the fact that this is a race of giant bugs.

When you get too far away from humanoid shaped you start dealing with issues that might cause more headaches then needed...

Like for instance would we then have to start adding new equipment?

What about if the creature has no waist, does it still get a waist slot?

What if it can't do something as simple as climb down a hole? Or even fit through a hole... (Common D&D stuff.)

All stuff that is sometimes fun, but also ends up being more work for the DM, or makes the race a little used race because people tend to not want to play the guy who has to wait behind while everyone else explores the mine shaft...
