Reach for the Sky! This is a hold up...

So the main villian(Rogue5/Fighter3...I can't remember his name) is out in the street, high on opium and causing a disturbance.

Then the mob comes out and the stand off occurs. Ike(Rogue2/Fighter2) attempts to intimidate Wyatt to "Cut 'em loose, law dog, or I swear to God that we'll tear you apart," but fails.

Your entire argument is based on these two [insignificant] characters being very high level. An eigth level drunk! A fourth level loudmouth punk!

These guys are minor characters. Minor characters already get pushed around and killed in one shot. You don't need special rules for this, they only have 5 hit points to begin with.

Arguement? I'm sorry, this is abuse. Arguements are down the hall...

Seriously folks...I'm not hear to argue. I want feedback. Suggestions. If all you have is criticism and reasons why it is not necessary, save it. (unless such criticism is followed by ways I can accomplish what I am hoping for within the current rules).

Now what kind of villian for a mid/high-level adventure would a 1st level character make? And how are two of the primary antagonists in the movie insignificant? sheesh!

Anyhow...so far, I think hong's suggestion has been best. Drop the crit threat and instead give the opportunity for some increased damage that is not based on crits...I'll have to think about it and if I come up with something I'll post it...

With regard to OA, I think this is a good way to go. Essentially, you make a check using your Iajitsu Focus skill (although you could rename it according to the setting)...

yeah. You and hong are probably right. The main thing I don't like about it is that it requires a skill most characters don't have. (edit...this is assuming that OA rules are not in play...like I said, I really only use the core rules and a couple house rules)

Here is an alternative off the top of my head:

Deadly Strike: Standard Action(provokes an AoO). You may make a single melee attack(or an attack with a bow or crossbow from 5' or less) against a flat-footed foe. You make your normal attack roll and resolve your hit normally. For every 5 points you beat your opponent's AC buy, you do an additional +1d6 sneak attack damage(your target must be subject to critical hits, clearly visible, have discernable anatomy, etc). In performing this action, you drop your guard so much that you are considered flatfooted until the beginning of your next action.

So this has some serious costs: Standard Action so no Full Attack, provokes an AoO and makes you flat-footed longer(because you are no longer really protecting yourself). A hasted character would be fast enough to get back to defending himself.

So Wyatt attacks Ike and rolls a 34. Ike is flatfooted and not wearing armor so he has an AC of 10. that's an extra +4d6 sneak attack damage for a total of d8+5+6d6(Average 30.5) or 2d8+10+6d6 on a crit.

Is that better? Still too easy to do?
