Reach Weapons?

Hi, all. Please educate me. :)

Of the four standard reach weapons:

Glaive: 1d10, x3, reach 10'
Guisarme: 2d4, x3, reach 10', improved trip ability
Longspear: 1d8, x3, reach 10', can brace against charge
Ranseur: 2d4, x3, reach 10', improved disarm ability

...why are there none that do similar damage to other two-handed weapons, like:

Greataxe: 1d12, x3.
Greatsword: 2d6, 19-20/x2.

Is it just for balance reasons?... "Why have a greatsword when you can have one with reach?" Well then, why not have an exotic reach weapon, then? Something with the stats of:

2d6, x3, reach 10'.

If you can take an exotic weapon (Bastard Sword, Dwarven Waraxe) to get increased maximum one-handed weapon damage (to 1d10), why not have one that does the same for the reach weapon? Is this a good or bad idea?

Thanks. :)

You've probably answered your own question here...as a general rule, reach weapons do less damage than non-reach ones.

Making it exotic might work well, though. I don't know.
