REALLY stupid question...

I have what will probably seem to most to be a really stupid question, but- on a standard battlemat, does one inch (i.e., square) equal five feet? I've never used a mat before, and I'm thinking about doing so...

We love using the battlemat - drawing terrain, walls etc...

sometimes we even scribble initiative or spell duration notes right on there - I recommend getting one!

Good place to keep track of lost hit points and missiles, too. Until the battle is over, attempts to recover missiles has happened, and the healing has been handled. That way you don't wind up with holes in your Player Character Sheets. Just be sure to pick up and extra set of wet erase markers so all of the players can keep track of their own. It also makes sure that those sorts of tallies are out in the open where people can keep an eye on each other's arithmetic...so folks don't accidentally short change themselves, of course...
