Reaper Warlord Miniature Game Who is playing?

francisca

I got dice older than you.
Last year at GenCon, me and two buddies happened into three seats at a table running the then unreleased Warlord Minature game by Reaper. Next to the KoDT live reading, it was easily the funnest event I participated in. It is a great game, and I look forward to playing it again someday.

My current gaming groups are all D&D, all the time right now, so prospects aren't so good for me playing it at home anytime soon.

Is anybody out there playing it?

Not me, although I've eyed some of the miniatures from the line for inclusion in my d20 game.

But, with the exception of my once-per-month Blood Bowl league, that's all I end up doing with any miniature game anyway. I've got Reaper, Warmachine, Confrontation/Hybrid, Warhammer, 40k and other miniature lines all coopted into d20 fantasy.

Haven't bought it yet, but it's on my wish list. I've got the beta rules, which I've read several times, and I've got a bunch of the minis (none painted yet). The one guy who would play in my group has just moved, so it's not as high a priority as it might be for me right now.

My wife and I are demo agents (Black Lightning) for Reaper, so we play lots of Warlord.

It's a pretty impressive game. For as simple as it is to play, it packs a surprising amount of depth. We've got a big day of Reaper gaming planned for our FLGS next month, and I'm looking forward to it.

If you go to the Reaper forums you can sometimes find a nearby Black Lightning member running events. There'll be a ton of events at both GenCon and Origins. Hopefully we'll see you at one of those francisca.

And the models are really, really nice. Even the standard grunts make excellent RPG models. If you're playing an elf, make sure to check out the Vale Archers and Vale Warriors. They come in three packs, but they are bitchin.

PS

I played it a few times at cons. Fairly decent system, but not the kind of thing that grabs your attention. They need a cool background or neat dice tricks to get me to play.

Besides, I buy nearly every fantasy miniature they release in any case.

The Warlord rule book is one of the best miniature rule books I have read. Two things really stood out for me: The painting guide and the campaign rules.

The painting guide is easily the most informative I've read. The samples of "here is too thick, here is too thin, here is just right" regarding paint and washes are far more instructive than vague descriptions about milk-like consistancy.

The campaign rules take a fun skirmish game and turn it into a fun detailed strategic game with many supply, resource, and interaction options.

I really like this game. If you are thinking about checking it out, do so.

I'll be looking to fit one in when GenCon event sign up comes along. Hope to see you there.
