D&D 5E Rebulding Besilmer

One of the campaigns I run with family is soon to finish up PotA. My son plays a dwarf and wants to build a kingdom. Given where they are, and that they have recovered Orcsplitter and the Lost Crown of Besilmer. It seems perfect for them to seek to rebuild Besilmer as their follow-on quest and a nice way to finish out the campaign. (So, I'm looking to create an adventure that picks up at the end of PotA and ends with the party as the leaders of a new kingdom/city).

I've read what little info is in PotA, what is on the FR Wiki but am looking for more resources (hopefully in the current 5E timeline, maybe fiction or?) and ideas. So, here's some of what I'm thinking:

- Negotiations with Yartar and Triboar and the other smaller towns (and organizations) to build an alliance
- Recruiting miners, builders, and farmers to come settle
- Cleaning up or suppressing some of the remaining local threats such as the dragons in the west and south (specifics not mentioned intentionally)
- Rebuilding some of the locations be they the strongholds or the temples/nodes/etc

Some things that would help flesh things out;
- How to handle political and alliance building
- Kingdom building and managing rules
- Other regional threats?

I was thinking about something similar a while back and I had thought the following

- For the Political alliances and such, I was going to use the DMG rules about Influence. Things in the campaign could change the Influence score of the ruler within the realm

- For the kingdom Management Rules there are a couple options:

a) Use old BECMI dominion rules
b) AEG Empires. It is a D&D 3.5 supplement. It has different resources and such and it is not overly complicated
c) Pathfinder's Kingmaker rules. It is not my prefered set of rules but it is not bad
d) More polished than BECMI rules you can use ACKS (Adventurer Conqueror King System). It's dominion ruling system is based on BECMI rules but much more polished and simplified.

You would have to make a couple of changes with the monetary values but I don't think it would be very difficult.

One thing that you have to consider is that when moving in this type of campaign you have to integrate Mass Combat Systems. All rulesets I have mentioned have their Mass Combat rules.

Good luck with the campaign and keep us posted!!!!
