Receiving a potion from an invisible comrade: AoO or No?

BY THE RULES, I don't remember anything specific about whether or not the recipient of a potion also provokes an AoO. As far as I know, the DMG only has rules for forcing a potion down an UNCONSCIOUS character's throat, not one who is still up and fighting.

So by the rules, since the person receiving the potion isn't actually doing anything, you would not get an AoO on them.

However, I'd definitely rule 0 this, and say that IN EFFECT he actually counts as if he is using the potion himself, which DOES provoke an AoO. Opening your mouth and holding still while a pixie pours a potion down your throat should involve you dropping your defenses about as much as if you'd grabbed the potion and quaffed it yourself.

BTW - Kreynolds... why the avatar change? I laughed at that AD&D logo on a daily basis!

Do potion vials size down to what would be usable for a pixie?

If so, would a potion sized for a pixie have any effect on a "big person"?

If not, how long does it take for a pixie to drink a human sized potion?

Can a pixie carry a human sized potion vial while flying?

;)

You don't think that coordinating your efforts with someone so they can administer a potion to you in the middle of a fight constitutes dropping your guard? Boy, I sure do.

I got "creative" with photoshop this weekend and wanted to show off a bit. :)

You did? Dude, that's weird. One or twice, I can see that being funny. Three or four more times, sure, I could understand getting a little giggle. But _every day_? That's just frickin' strange. Like ringing the bell so the chicken will drop the mini-basketball into the mini-net every time frickin' strange. ;)

Pixies are considered Small creatures, like Halflings.

Oh I definitely do, which is why I said I'd rule 0 it. I just don't remember anything in the rules about a recipient of a potion, scroll, wand, or any other effect being subject to an attack of opportunity. You could probably lump this in with "Any action that lowers your defenses" in the DMG as a cause that provokes one.

Okay, so I didn't literally burst into laughter daily, but I did think it was a lasting source of amusement. Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for an amusing pun, and I hate AT&T.

It's kinda like "Jesus saves... and takes half damage". It's never NOT funny. ;)

Or maybe I'm just weird. Hell I dunno. :D

The attacker should get an AoO against the drinker, yes (IMO)

If you want to avoid that, perhaps the pixie could develop serynges (sp?) so he can stab people in the butt and administer cure potions? In that situation, i'd rule that the Pixie has to succeed at somewhat of an attack, and that the "patient" would probably suffer 1 point of (subdual?) damage.

See? I told you it was funny!

I would caution against reactionary house rules. They usually end up breaking more than they fix.

After reading further I would agree that the attacker would get his pick either AoOing the Dwarf for the Pixie depending on where the pixie is.

I didn't say he could. I said I wouldn't allow him to administer a potion to someone else from five feet away.

What I meant was, a five foot square next to the dwarf. If he's in a square that is not in the threatened are of the attacker he is safe.
