Recoiled + Sandstorm + Grim Tales = A Whole Lotta Western Fun

Hey, it's not the, umm, size of the state that matters, err, or something. ;)

If CarlZog got in on this, we'd have 3 Roe d'Ilanduhz in this game!

You've got that now. I was born and raised a stone's throw from P'tuck't on the east side
of Providence.

I could be a Sioux medicine man! But I'll wait until I hear more about the setting, location, and background first...

This will be my attempt to create a D20 Western Fantasy game. And yes, I know Cold Steel Reign is coming out, but I'd like to attempt to put together my own thing.
Okay, I have been working up some of the preliminary on this, but I can't do much until I have Sandstorm and Grim Tales in my hands. I'll work on a little bit every day. Today I'm working on the feats an the beasties allowable in the game.

I've already decided that there will be no monsters with the aberration or outsider type and no monsters with the extraplanar subtype.

As for playable races I'm definetely set on allowing Humans (naturally), Dwarves, Hobgoblins and Orcs. I'm contemplating the inclusion of Gnolls and Bugbears as playable races. The setting will not have elves of any kind in it.

The game will have magic and undead in it, but it will not be saturated with them.

I have a sudden urge to play a Hobgoblin gunslinger. But no Elves to shoot at? Hmm...

Cool. Any chance you can write up a bit of fluffy background to the setting while you're waiting for the rulebooks?

I'm not exactly sure how everything fits together yet. My mind is a shmorgasboard full of ideas right now and I'm trying to sort it out. Also, I am going to do online research about America during the time of land rush. Please have patience I will start a new thread compling my ideas when everything starts to have a semblance of form.

That seems to leave a lot of the "weird" out of the Weird West.

Aberration is one of my favorite types as it's a catch-all for pretty much anything that fits into the category of "If it bleeds, we can kill it."

Ahh, ok. So it's not necessarily going to be a "historical" setting. Got it.

Hmm, bugbear wrestler.... :)

I agree. I think aberrations are some of the easiest creatures to incorporate into any kind of low-magic setting because they are so varied.
