What about System Shock? It was from Origins kind of the greatgrand son twice removed of Bioshock

System Shock is an amazing game. I'm afraid that with my current system specs, while I can run it, playing it is nearly impossible (it runs rediculously fast, which is a major hinderance for any good fps/platformer). I guess I could always slow down the FPS but, then, it will look horrible. Ah well, I guess you can't win them all.

In other news, I'm currently tracking down a copy of Anachronox -- I had a friend who bought this back when it was initially released and I recall it being a very cool mix of wacky, action-packed, fun. Anybody else ever see and/or play this game?

The Ultima series is good, as were the Ultima Adventures games.

Ultima Underworld was good, Underworld 2 wasn't bad either, but a bit stranger.

I'll Second Wasteland. Best CRPG Ever! Did a very good job of combining the Ultima style exploration and talk, with Bards Tale style combat (which worked well).

I always had fun training people up in Brawling by having them attack strange things with the Proton axe. getting 4-5 melee attacks with a 50 strength and a proton axe was fun.

I also remember the multi-disk cheat for that game. Not sure you can do it for PC version though.

Magic Candle I and III (avoid II)
Adventure Construction Set (a very early make your own CRPG toolset.)
Darklands (One of my all time favorites. :) )
Dungeon Master
Wizardry (Gods, that one takes me back....)
The original Might and Magic series.
Hound of Shadows (Call of Cthulhu!)
It Came From the Desert
Colonel's Bequest

Some of the really old text games - Some of the old Infocom text games were a lot of fun. If you can find it I would recommend Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Even better was The Lurking Horror (again, Call of Cthulhu!) and the classic Leather Goddesses of Phobos.
Zork series
And a few 'illustrated' text games -
The Pawn
Deja Vu
And really a guilty pleasure, the Spellcasting 101 series. I am ashamed to admit that I liked them. :o

If you can find any of the old Infocom games, I highly recommend A Mind Forever Voyaging.

I'll second Angband as well. One of the best games out there.

Another game worth noting that I haven't seen mentioned is FRUA - Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures. It's essentially a 1e gaming engine for AD&D games, and there are bucketloads of adventures written for it out there. Kind of like a DOS Neverwinternights. Graphics aren't horrible, and the stories are pretty good as they mostly stick to published adventures from TSR era.

It's very similar to the old Pools of Radiance in look, but there are much better adventures for it.

Pinotage

Mordor: The Depths of Dejenol

Moraffs World

Those are some older CRPGs which I have enjoyed and hope to pass along some of that enjoyment through pointing these games out to you.
