A ghost brute (savage species) heavy warhorse is a solid pick for a PC, though few thing are more majestic than a ghost-knight charging on a mist-borne ghostly pegasus.

The following is Iyllisan, the black-pegasus fiendish servant of the blackguard BBEG Lucius du'Black (CR 17). Feel free to use it if you aren't afraid of a bit of cheese. However, Lucius is a CR 17 character, so I've jacked up Iyllisan's power quite a bit. It is probably several CR higher than CR 8.

Iyllisan: Ghostly Shadow Black-Pegasus; CR 8 ; Large Undead (incorporeal); HD 10d12+20; hp 92 (immune to crit. hits); Init +4 (+4 dex); Speed: fly 60 ft (perfect), fly 150 ft (average); AC 21 (-1 size, +5 dex, +7 Defl, [+11 natural], [+7 armor]) [21 touch, 16 flat]; Attks 2 hooves +22 melee, bite +13 melee (hooves 1d6+11 +1d6 cold, bite 1d4+4 and Strength Drain); SA Manifestation, Unnerving Gaze; Passthrough, Frightful Scream; SQ Dark-vision 60 ft., Low-light vision, scent, empathic link, improved evasion, share spells, share saving throws, speak with blackguard, Blood-bond, +2 luck bonus to all saves, Damage Resistance 10/magic, Fast healing 2, Cold Resistance 15, Shadow Blending (nine-tenths conceilment when in shadowy regions: 40% miss chance), Rejuvenation (automatically successful in 2d6 days), Turn Resistance +4; 5 ft. x 10 ft. / 5 ft.; AL LE; SV +11/+13/+9; Str 27(+8), Dex 21(+5), Con --(+0), Int 13(+1), Wis 15(+2), Cha 16(+3);

Special: Iyllisan's natural attacks count as +2 magical weapons for the purpose of bypassing damage reduction. A corporeal creature still has a 50% chance to ignore physical attacks from any incorporeal source (and vice versa).

Appearance: A massive midnight-black pegasus with glowing citrine-coloured pupil-less eyes. Faint wisps of shadow essence waft form its mane, giving it a slightly blurry appearance (+6 Hide checks). Its breath is icy cold, forming a pale-white mist before it.

Note: AC bonuses and attacks in brackets [---] do not affect non-ethereal creatures.

Skills: Ride +28(#), Hide +17, S Mot +13, Lis +14, Spot +19, M Sil +5($)

Feats: Fly-by attack, Iron Will, Hover, Trample(*), Run,

Equipment: Masterwork Exotic Saddle, military; Battle Bridle; +3 Frost Horse-shoes of Speed; +2 Shadow Mithral Plate barding; Amulet of Deflection +3; Periapt of Intelligence +2;

(*) As the General feat Trample. Iyllisan can use this feat whether carrying a rider or not. Iyllisan need not have any of the prerequisites normally required for this feats to select it. Against ethereal or noncorporeal creatures, resolve any overrun attempt normally (incorporeal creatures cannot be knocked prone, so any overrun is treated as a bull-rush). Against non-ethereal, corporeal creatures, see the Pass-through attack.

(#) Iyllisan gains a +10 ride bonus, she can use her skill bonus or her rider's, whichever higher. Iyllisan can use a Ride check, plus the Ride Task DC - 10 added as a modifier, to negate any use of the Ride skill done by a rider she despises. For example, with a successful opposed Ride check at a -5 penality, she can throw her rider off of her (Ride Task: Stay in Saddle, DC 5). If the thrown rider tries to make a soft landing (DC 15), she can deny him success with a opposed ride check at a +5 bonus. The ride bonus is included into the stats.

($) Incorporeal creatures make no noise unless they wish to do so.

Special Attacks:

Unnerving Gaze (Su): Gaze attack, range 30 ft., Will save DC 18, otherwise identical to the spell Cause Fear.

Strength Drain (Su): Living creatures hit by Iyllisan's bite attack must make a Fortitude save against DC 18 or suffur 1d4 permenent Str Drain. Iyllisan heals 5 hp for each successful drain attempt.

Pass-through (Su): When making an overrun attack against a corporal opponent, Iyllisan can simply pass through the opponent's body. The opponent cannot make a choice to let Iyllisan by, but it gets an attack of opportunity as Iyllisan enters its space. Once Iyllisan enters the space occupied by the opponent, she and the opponent must make an opposed Charisma-based Will save (use Iyllisan and the opponent's base Will saving bonus, plus any modifiers, but add the Charisma modifier instead of the Wisdom modifier). Iyllisan gains an +5 racial bonus to this opposed save. If Iyllisan wins the save, she passes through the body of the opponent unhindered. If the opponent wins, Iyllisan cannot pass through and must move 5 feet back the way she came. If the opponent wins by +5 or more, Iyllisan must move back 5 ft and acts as if stunned for 1 round.

Any opponent passed through takes 2d10 negative energy damage and suffurs 2d4 points of permanent Strength drain. A successful Fortitude save against DC 18 halves the damage and negates the strength drain. Iyllisan heals 10 points of damage each time the drain is successful. Any hit points healed beyond Iyllisan's maximum is gained as temporary hit points that go away in 1 hour. Any object or creature carried by Iyllisan (including any rider) pass through with her.

Frightful Scream (Su): Iyllisan can let out a frightful scream as a standard action. All living creatures within a 60 ft, spread must succeed on a Will save against DC 18 or become panicked for 2d4 rounds. This is a sonic necromantic mind-affecting fear effect. A creature that successfully saves against the scream cannot be affected by Iyllisan's scream for 24 hours.

Manifestation (Su):

Special Qualities:

Rejuvenation (Su): Automatically successful, reforms in 2d6 days.

Turn Resistance (Ex): A ghost has +4 turn resistance.

First of all, lol werk!

You could go with an ashworm (Sandstorm) with the ghost template, and go into Ashworm Dragoon.

That would be pretty cool...
