Recommend me a PC game

Eternalknight

Looking for something new to go out and buy (well, not neccessarily new, per se, but new to me). Don't really care about the genre....

I have played NWN, Lord of the Rings, Morrowind, Warcraft III, Age of Mythology....

Hmm. PC scene has been a little drab lately, but there's a few good ones out now.

In addition to what has already been mentioned:

- Raven Shield
- Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (if you don't own a console)
- Freelancer

Hmmm, for RPGs, Fallout 1 and 2 are old, but still pretty decent, and Arcanum, created by the same design team, is also very good. My only problem with Arcanum is that no matter how much I tell myself to play a magic using type the tech keeps calling me back....

The Auld Grump

Rayman 3. Not as good as Rayman 2, which if you haven't played, you should.

They're platformers (think Mario64), so a good control pad wouldn't be a bad idea, a PS2 style one with two analog sticks). Though I haven't been have any trouble just using the keyboard, have to see if I can get my mouse to work with it.

I have had a wonderful time with Freelancer. Mostly a Privateer remake of space combat and trading.

I also hear great things about Medieval: Total War and plan on picking it up as its been out for sometime now.

Really? I was exactly the opposite with Arcanum, I always played a magic guy. The teleport spell was just far too handy to go without.

I'll second the Fallout rpgs (as distinguished from Fallout: Tactics, which was crap on CD), though the 2nd one has a few minor features that make it easier to play, like the "take all" button and more digits for barter. The 2nd one is also much longer.

It's the blueprints I'm afraid. Every time I get ready to level I find a new plan I can't quite use yet. :)

The Auld Grump, looking forward to Temple of Elemental Evil, which I suspect will be another Troika gem....

You should really try magic at least once. Teleport and disintegrate will change your life. So will fun things like summoning demons and petrifying folks. No, really.
