Well, how about this for a twist:

Use a mix of the Generic classes from Unearthed Arcana, along with the Racial Paragon classes as well.

Okay AFGNCAAP has a valid idea here, won't the use of these generic classes clear up a lot of arguments over classes?

See I haven't bought a copy of Unearthed Arcana yet, so tell me a bit about the paragon classes (are they like the Giant Paragon PrC from Diamond Throne?) Also what kinds of Saves/ BAB does an Expert get (I can kinda guess how Warriors and Spellcasters fare)

By the way, remember how Deedlit and Pirotess both knew as soon as they saw Orson that he was a berserker?

I'd say that Lodoss elves would be able to spot a berserker on sight.

Well I think they knew something was off with him, but when his eyes went white his muscles buldged and the scarey music started, that's when they knew he was a berserker

Well I found the PDF of the Fuzion conversion. Ive put it up on my site if anyone wants it. It is roughly about 1 to 1.5 megs in size and the direct link is here. Id suggest to "Save As" instead of viewing it online.

These is my thoughts:
Orson:Frenzied breserker with the activate when hurt changed to when love is hurt and prerec changed to tramatic experiance and attack bonus+6 no former rage feat nessesary.

Parn: Fighter

Ashram: Fighter/Kensai Lawful Evil?good?

Sirus: Swashbuckle

kashue: Fighter/Kensai again

Spark:fighter

Deedlit:swashbuckler/?/bladesinger(with some mods)

Mar:bard

Ghim:fighter/barbarian?

Leaf:?

Garrik:fighter

Sesle(misspelled):wizard/fighter

Slayn:wizard

pirotess:fighter with invisiblity/will

Ethod?:don't remember him, I'll rewatch series

Vagnard:Wizard

Carla:wizard Epic (way)

Shooting Star:Advanced Red Dragon

Gram:Advanced crystal Dragon

Bairom:Blue Dragon?

Can't think of more now.

Hmmm... I'm still of the opinion of K.I.S.S., you can do RoLW with the SRD mostly and still have it work well.

MOST of the D&D Truisms work: Thanks to CoHK and LoC, most of the D&D classes are accounted for in some manner, if not exactly.

Barbarian - You can argue Orsen was one.
Bard - Maar
Cleric - Etoh, Greevus, Little Neese
Druid - Ok, there are no shapeshifters that I know of, but the idea of elemental/nature magic is previlent. Maybe Spirit Shaman from Complete Divine? Leaf might fall into this category.
Fighter - Too many, Kashew, Parn, Spark, and Ghim for starts
Monk - Can't think of one off the top of my head... :-(
Paladin - Fahn and the Holy Knights
Ranger - Deedlit perhaps?
Rogue - Woodchuck, Ryna,
Sorcerer - Deedlit, Pirotress, Cecil
Wizard - Slayn, Aldonova

In addition, the Fuzion system suggests most of the above. A little finesseing to get them into D&D stats and you really don't need to make major system changes. (Maybe remove item creation, or include some optional rules like Defense Bonus and Reputation).

An Expert can select 2 of his/her saves to be Good saves, with 1 Poor save. For Warriors & Spellcasters, they only can select 1 Good save, with 2 Poor saves.

As for comparing Racial Paragon Classes, I think Monte's AU is basically the idea source for the UA racial paragon classes.

Also, I have to agree that mainly using the PHB classes may work (with the exception of Deedlit, perhaps).

Incidentally, along with the original OAV series, the TV series, and the Crystania movie, There have been three mangas translated to english by CPM, all of which show events quite differently from the various animes.
There's also 'Rune Soldier Louie' which is set in the Lodoss world...even if the tone is very VERY different. :D

After looking over the Fuzion thing I'm thinking of doing a possible Lodoss game with normal core classes (plus the Shaman and perhaps a holy warrior type class for Parn, he's not a paladin, I see him as Very neutral Good with Lawful tendencies, he spent too much time wandering with an Elf and turned down the chance to be a Holy Knight of Valis and perhaps even king of his homeland... not something a lawful Good person would do.. if all else fails I'm sure I could find a Prestige Class that would work well for him)

But A few things... I need a decent map... please link me toward one!

Also I see there isn't much love for Shiris.. I know she was too thick to jump Orson's bones when she had the chance, but come on!

2. Does the existing Magic System fit, or should we explore alternatives?

4. How prevelant should magic/magic items be?

Rather than tackling the whole list I thought I'd tackle just a couple. I'm not the Anime-niac that I used to be. :)

With both questions I think it would be best to approach Lodoss similar to Midnight. It would be a "Magic is Rare but Powerful" setting. Items would not be common at all but instead those few magic items would be powerful. Also, I don't think a "Slots per Day" magic system would work too well. Once again, I'd use Midnight instead. Midnight uses a Spell Point system but when you run out of Spell Points you can start using your Constitution as a reserve. I remember well seeing Slayn looking worn out and winded after casting his spells (episode one when he catches up to the party after fighting off the gargoyles). I'd keep the spell list division where it is to separate arcane and divine magics but lose the slot based system.
