[Recruiting Fresh Again!] The Old School: 1e AD&D

I never knew you could have a cleric/fighter/magic user. I'll try that certainly. Probably a female but I'm easy.

If you want you can go ahead and do the rolls for all the other bits. When I played DnD in the old days it was almost always random generation. Just like old times - none of this new-fangled select evrything Pshaw!

Here's a draft of my PC. There are several spots (indicated by ???) that I wasn't able to figure out looking at the 1e PHB. I managed to find the saving throws in the DMG (Seriously, the DMG? What's up with that?), but am not sure if some of what I've missed is also in the DMG.

Also, I can't seem to find any benefit whatsoever in having a 19 Dex as opposed to an 18.

1. Spell Components: As it stands, the game assumes that living expenses for PCs are 100 gp per level per month. I may change that if it turns out to be too expensive, but otherwise, I will assume that this allows maintenance of common spell components, as well as replenishment of normal missiles (arrows, sling stones, quarrels) and "free" room and board around town. Monks need not spend anything.

2. Your age makes you a Young Adult, so you'll need to add 1 Constitution point and subtract 1 Wisdom point. You can still be a Druid, no problem. When you turn 21, you will become Mature, and add 1 Wisdom and 1 Strength.

3. We'll still need rolls for height, weight, and secondary skills.

4. It looks like you're using the OSRIC equipment table; that's fine, since it gives a few more items. Note that there are 20 silver pieces to the gold piece in 1e, and not 10 as in other editions. There are still 10 coppers to the silver (200 coppers to the gold).

2. In which case I need a birthday. I can either roll a random birthday or, if you are amiable, midnight on midsummer's eve would fit my character concept nicely.

3. Your rolls will do nicely, tall and willowy it is.

4. I actually used the PHB table but added a few necessities for which I do not have costs, encumbrance. I did pick up on 20 silvers per gold. I'll check the OSRIC equipment tables and update things appropriately.

Regards
Phil

I am ok with a cleric of the same diety as the paladin if it is ok with the player and gm! also, since i rolled an age of 21, that is : -1 wis, +1 wis, +1 con and +1 str total, right?

The following characters are ready for addition to the characters thread:

Amirad, Human Paladin (Thondor)
Lidia, Human Druid (ghostcat)
"Kel" Greyleaf, Elf Thief (garyh)
Unnamed Human Cleric (Scott Dewar)

Post your characters here! Once they're in, I'll get things started and add people as they get ready, themselves.

Still in development:

Creamsteak's character
Gli'jar's character
The Digger's character (Half-Elf Cleric/Fighter/Magic-User)

1. Dex 19 isn't on any table, but it's safe to say that it will give you a +4 Reaction/Attacking Adjustment and a -5 Defense Adjustment. Also, add an additional 5% to Pick Pockets, Open Locks, Find/Remove Traps, Move Silently, and Hide in Shadows.

2. Choose two weapon proficiencies from the following list: Club, Dagger, Dart, Sling, Short Sword, Broad Sword, Long Sword.

3. Your languages are Common, Neutral Good, Thieves' Cant, Elf, Gnome, Halfling, Goblin, Hobgoblin, Orc, and Gnoll.

4. Note your elf abilities as well:
90% resistance to sleep and charm
+1 to hit with bows, short swords, long swords
60' Infravision
Notice secret/concealed doors 1/6
Find secret doors 2/6
Find concealed doors 3/6
Surprise 4/6 when not in metal armor and with only other elves or halflings

5. Here are the finishing rolls you're looking for:
Starting money: 2d6=11 110 gp

Height and Weight:
1d100=1, 1d100=63, 1d100=50, 1d100=47 60-1d6=57
Height: 4"9'
Weight: 100

Age: 100+5d6=114 114
Young Adult: +1 Con, -1 Wis

Secondary Skills: 1d100=43 Miner
(An elf miner... interesting... but this is a mining community)

Elves do not have psionics.

Midsummer's eve is fine.

That's correct.

I just found my old campaign stuff, complete with deities. Here's a pantheon for your characters.

Solinar, LG god of the sun, truth, protection. Symbol: sun amulet
Talvek, NG god of the harvest, bounty. Symbol: glass rod filled with seed
Corbila, CG goddess of love, emotion, the rain. Symbol: blue armband, iris in bloom
Arbiter: LN god of stability, keeper of records, judges. Symbol: golden circlet
All-Mother: N goddess of nature. Symbol: holly and mistletoe
Nameless One: CN god of mysteries, secrets, forbidden knowledge. Symbol: large key
Cheliva: LE goddess of tyranny, temptation, slavery. Symbol: black garter, thorny rose in bloom
Death: NE god of death. Symbol: carved bone
Armonger, CE god of brutailty, destruction, conquerers. Symbol: black and red horned helmet
