Red Wizards... of Leng?!

Did anyone else catch that little blurb in the podcast?

Someone said in the RIP thread that Thay was becoming like Mordor and Ssaz Tam (or however you spell it; no, Primal, I don't care to know the correct way) was like Sauron, but it looks like it was specifically compared to Leng.

Which is pretty freakin' awesome. I've been accused—justly—of turning every game I run into Call of Cthulhu but I never thought I'd hear an official source make overtures in that regard to Forgotten Realms.

The Forgotten Realms have never—and I really mean never—looked so interesting to me.

The 4E Tiefling will work well enough for the Men of Leng.

Bloated purplish spiders chill on the plateau of Leng too. I don't remember if they were intelligent or not though.

Magic the gathering even had a Library of Leng card. Not sure if that was a reference to the Cthulhu mythos though.

I do like the way Rich Baker and Bruce Cordell described the updated version of Thay. A remote, scary place dominated by evil wizards is much cooler than the current version, which is an accessible, orderly place dominated by evil wizards.
