I am looking for opinions on redoing the core classes. I was thinking about making all core classes only ten levels. I would have to use my own complete system if I did this though, because I would only want 3-5 level PrC to go with it. But I was thinking for like magic users, you get o-level spells at lvl one and one new spell level with each level. I would still keep all the feat and skill systems though. What do you think?

If mages got one spell level every level (even assuming it maxes out at 9) save DCs will be much harder for people to make and will be way too powerful. If I were you I'd just make casters gain 1 spell level every other level as normal and move down higher level spells to lower level slots if you really want casters to get them (discern location, true seeing etc.)
Giving spellcasters extra power (in the form of giving them higher-level spells, sooner in their careers) will almost certainly make them overpowered (especially if changes of similar magnitudes aren't made to fighters and such). A 20th-level fighter is already badly outclassed by a 20th-level wizard, and under this system it would effectively be a 10th-level fighter against a [character with the spellcasting of a] 20th-level wizard.

I think what you're proposing is entirely possible, but you'd have to examine how your characters are going to end up compared to all of the various assumptions built into the system. For a few opinions on how to do this and keep it all "ballanced," check out these sources:

Thus a 10th level fighter would be the equivalent of a 20th level fighter, and a 20th level fighter wouldn't exist (or would be seriously epic).

I'm a little fuzzy on why you want to do this. What problem are you trying to address?
Have you checked out Clasically Modern? It uses d20 Modern base classes and makes the regular PHB classes into advanced classes (each 10 levels I believe):

It was just an idea I was kicking around. I personally like fast progression, but at the same time I like the fact that under this system at higher levels things would be much more deadly. Tales abound of the heroic group who with but a thought or swing vanquish large amounts of foes. Spells become deadlier, and so do swords and whatnot to the high level fighters. I would probably, SLIGHTLY modify the experience charts too. I was just wondering if this only sounded reasonable in my own head.
I want the "higher" levels to be much more intense and deadly. I like novelized fantasy. How often in the novels do the BBEG's spells get repelled? How often does the fighter have to chop away at something for minutes on end waiting for it to ultimately fall over and die? These are the kinds of things I want and I feel the easiest way to do this is condense things down just like I am trying to.
