Registration Experience (Good or bad?)

Also, why not stagger RPG registration, board game registration and Card game registration. Yes, I know some would have to register three seperate times, but it would also cut down on the loads.

There was talk of this as some of the options on the GenCon forums. Most agreed (nearly overwhelmingly) that the staggered approach would be a headache. Trying to register for one type of event before you even know if you can get into another type of event. Once the boards are back up reliably you can cruise by and see some of the arguments.

How hard is this problem to fix. It seems like you just need a large bandwidth to your server. Is this a really difficult problem which no one is willing to put the time into fixing OR
Is this a matter of money which people are unwilling to spend on a server capable of handling the trafic OR
Are the IT people at GenCon just not very good OR
Did I miss a point?

Does someone here have any knowledge of this

If we could get on the GenCon forums (and they weren't crashing), I'd point you to one of the numerous threads that I had started on this. :D

To sum it up, they need: a seperate database server, 2 load balanced dual processor servers.

That alone would improve things significantly.

Then, start optimizing the code.

Well, at least my tickets for the Book of Erotic Fantasy LARP are in my cart!

Worry! I had several tickets in my cart at least twice. When I was dropped, it dumped my cart. Also, if it doesn't dump your cart, I wont be surprised if the tickets aren't your until you check out. I'm trying to get into True Dungeon. There are only three or four slots that work well for me.
