Reign of Fire - what have you heard?

Plane Sailing

Astral Admin - Mwahahaha!
I've noticed some posters and trailers for a potentially interesting film coming out in the UK in a month or two - has it had an earlier release in the States?

Reign of Fire (www.reignoffire.com) from their synopsis:
In present day London a 12 year old kid watches his mother, a construction engineer inadvertantly wake an enormous fire-breathing beast from its centuries long slumber. 20 years later much of the world has been scarred by the beast and its offspring. As a fire chief, Christian Bale (all grown up now) is responsible for warding off the beasts and keeping a small community alive. Into their midst comes a hotshot American Matthew McConaughey, who says he has a way to kill the beasts and save mankind.

Reign of fire fuses a medieval past with a post apocalyptic future in this exciting tale of adventure and survival

Sounds as if it could be quite interesting, certainly a different spin on dragons..

The trailer looks like it's basically military hardware vs dragons, action movie style. Boomboom, belch fire, roar. I'd hope for more - maybe an actual plot or decent characters, but the advertising has been slim, so it's hard to tell what's in there...

Just another in a long line of "Ancient creature awakened by man" genre. In one of the previews they said that the dragons went from a population of one to a million in about a year. Overall I was less then impressed with the trailers.

i totally want to see a dragon taken down with an M16 and a .50 cal machine gun. That and throw in some grenades and people getting eaten by dragons and we got one hot time in the old town tonite!!

This begs a question ... Who is the better dragonslayer: American (Matthew McConaughey) or British (Christian Bale)? :D

OBTW, this movie has a couple of Star Trek connections that I know so far: Alice Krige (portrayed the "Borg Queen" in Star Trek: First Contact movie) and Alexander Siddig (portrayed "Dr. Bashir" in Deep Space Nine TV series).
