Reincarnation – How do you handle it?

but the tradeoff is the risk of coming back as, say, a fox--no speaking, no thumbs, etc. BTW, enforce this: if someone is playing a badger, don't let the player tell the other players anything that would require the character to talk.

Sorry to disapoint you but the spell states the character comes back as a "Magical Creature" and can speak all the languages it knew before death.

but it still cannot cast spells that require Somantic components unles it has opposible thumbs or the Nature spell feat.

For continuity and playability I have my own chart that guarantees that a player will come back as a useful humanoid that can interact witht the party. Raise Dead and Ressurection are hard enough to gain in my campaign, so I make sure that if they go this route, it isn't too disruptive. Some people may not like that but that's the way I handle it. It's only happened a few times and the respective PC's have come back as a Dryad, Goblin and Hobgoblin.

A short description of the 3.5 reincarnation, which appears to be user-friendly by relying on humanoids, is in the "3.5 available for sale" thread in general.

Two RPers walk up to the cashier in Seven-11.

Cashier: "What's your little furry buddy squeaking about?"

"Oh, don't mind him, he says he bought chips last week."

O.

In which case, go with my other option: there are no significant drawbacks risked with reincarnation, so they pay full ECL (i.e., lose the corresponding class levels) for the new race. In addition to losing a character level, if you play it that way.

Oh, thanks for not jumping down my throat about missing part of the spell--i've only played D&D3E, not run it, so i sometimes miss a detail--though i've run AD&D for well over a decade, and RPGs in general for two, so i've got the basic grounding.
