Reincarnation

Upon closely reading the spell I saw that you could interpret the spell to mean that when you reincarnate as a creature, you get the stat modifiers but nothng else...the spell doesn't say you get the abilities (natural armor, movement, etc.) of the new body. Yeah, I know this doesn't make sense logically, but it makes sense rules-wise (i.e. the spell explicitly states what the effects are and you can't assume additional effects that weren't mentioned).

Remember how they say Reincarnate is the poor man's Raise Dead? They were right. This should teach you to either pony up more gold or suck it up and deal with it.

Albeit, no level adjusted race should be on the list; nor should any with racial hit dice. That's just a lot of extra work that doesn't need to be dealt with.

My take is, you get the racial HD and the LA right away, but then you don't advance for a while. You said you were level 9 or so? The short version of how to fix it is thus:

Currently, it'll take you until ~45k XP to get to level 10. After the new LA and racial HD, it will take you until ~91k XP. You then level up past that point as normal.

Or, just ask the DM to let you be a goblin instead.

Too true. I had a half-orc druid who got reincarnated as an elf. Physically, he was only slightly worse off, but mentally he never fully recovered from the trauma of that first glimpse in the mirror.

Wow, 12 responses and not one mention of using maximize + empower with Reincarnate yet! :p
Would there be any point? "Random choice" is not the same as "variable numerical effect".

While I allow this in my games, it only results in a 100 ("other") result on the reincarnation chart.

Now, a maximize + empower awaken can have some pretty powerful results.

IMC you wouldn't take the racial HD or the level adjustment. Isn't it bad enough that you're one level lower, and that you might need to buy equipment to fit your new size? Plus you might not speak the language of your new form?

First thing: Be happy you didn't roll 'Dryad' (particularly if the half-orc example above was male).

But back to the first question, if you have access to the PHB2 I strongly recommend talking to your DM about allowing you to visit one of the rebuilding sites listed near the back of the book, the 'Gates of Dawn' may be the most flavorful for you. If you don't have access to it, the rebuilding sites, basically, let you rebuild your character however you want. You go in, walk through the gates, and come out as the character you want to be.

It's a good idea, solves alot of metagame problems.

We've been lucky, so far, in that all reincarnations have resulted in 0LA characters. Granted, one came back as a halfling and walked off in a huff never to be seen again (PC, not player).

One long-standing houserule of mine is that a roll of 00 = Troll. Not too bad in 1e but a bit of a bu__er in 3.5.

I am undecided how I would deal with +LA race reincarnation, though. I think I would leave out any racial dice and impose the LA. After all, the character is in a different body, he didn't have a different upbringing.
