Relic Hunters in Tekumel (IC)

Angelina rubs the sleep out of her eyes as she wakes from her sister's poking. It doesn't take long for her to become alert. She begins hastily gathering her belongings. She thanks Branwyn for his help and gives Bella's shoulder a squeeze in a reassuring way.

"Yes, thanks to you Yolkana, it looks like we have no choice but to stay ahead of them since you decided to kill them on the spot and make them angry at us." She takes in a deep, calming breath. "But we've been in worse situations ladies. Hopefully we don't have to deal with them and the lri at the same time but we need to be prepared for anything at this point. When we return to the city, the Clan will be furious with the village and I have no doubt they'll send more an one warrior to deal with it. For now, let's focus on getting to the temple." She pauses then adds, "It might be helpful to cover our tracks but we may have made too many of them, unless someone has any ideas."

As she finishes packing her thoughts wander to Jack, and the fact that part of his job was to deal with the pirates. Wonder how that's going she laughs to herself.

"They have to know where we're headed. The village knew... So I'm sure they passed that info along."

Bella turns to Yolkana,

"Didn't I hear something about traps inside the temple? Or did I misunderstand? Maybe we can use them against the slavers?"

Yolkana begins to pack up her things and head towards the mules as she answers, "Yes, there were traps reported in there. There were also reports of flesh-eating Hlutrgu living near the temple, and they are overly aggressive. So the dangers will be as deadly to us as they are to those that pursue us. But there are more of them than there are of us, so maybe they will find more of those risk than we will."

[section]Briony grinned. "A couple of us practiced with the Tsoylani about how to fight Hlutgru. Their hides are tough, you'll want piercing weapons. Like a spear." Briony picked out her spear from among the gear on her mule. She hefted the weapon to show the others. "Bludgeoning and slashing weapons, like my sword, are less effective against the Hlutgru." She resumed packing her things and thought for a moment, then offered, "If we could somehow create a trail leading up to and into the temple, there's a good chance the hive of villainy on our tail might go in the temple, too. And then the Hlutgru could feast, while we hide outside."

Her grin deepened. "Anyone good at laying a false trail?"[/section]

"Hmmmm," Angelina taps her lips, "Not a bad idea sis. I do have a spell that can detect Hlutgru. Perhaps we let both of these problems take care of each other."

The Relic Hunters prep their mules and head out towards the far temple. In just an hour you are at the bottom of the hill and trudging through wet ground and knee-high marsh which slows your flight down. A handful of hours later and the sun reaches high in the sky, causing the trek to become truly miserable as large mosquitoes decide to make you a snack. The mules begin to get stubborn from the trail you are making them blaze. Those that are heavily armored such as Briony are especially unhappy, though those wearing robes like Elsbeth are equally troubled as the mud and water collects onto the bottom of their clothes. You see no lri, and so you believe Po at least helped you there. On the other hand he seems to have purposely set you up, as the stench makes it quite easy to catch your scent and you soon hear the barking of hunting dogs. It would seem that the slavers decided to put a pack or two on your trail and from their more audible barking and yapping you seem to have only have a few rounds until they will be upon you.

Bella halts her mule only long enough to ready her heavy crossbow and then gives the stubborn animal a kick. Urging it to pick up the pace. She can be heard uttering random obscenities and,

"Burn that damn village to the ground..."

[section]Briony resisted the urge to say told you so. She agreed, they should've killed the villagers. Instead of exhibiting ill manners to the others, however, she merely grinned. Then she hopped off her mule, hobbled it so it wouldn't run off, and drew her two-handed sword. She readied a spear atop the gear strapped to her mule, too, just in case the hunting party kept company with any hlutgru. Satisfied that the spear was accessible for grabbing quickly if she had need of it, Briony assumed a fighting stance and watched for the first members of the hunt to approach.[/section]

OOC: I'm baaaack! Are the trees climbable? If they are, Zephia is going to go up one and try to get a good vantage point as well as a place to pick off bad guys from above with her bow.
