Remember the Blind Kobold?

Feanor Starym

First Post
I remember some example that showed up either on Erics boards or the ENworld boards some time in the past that had to do with the rules and a blind kobold... Can anyone remember what it was?
(From memory this was at about the same time as the first appearance of the Whirlwind Attack/Great Cleave/Bucket of Snails trick)

Yeah, the Blind Kobold is carried to get an extra attack with Cleave, he's forced to provoke an AoO and then you kill him and Cleave on your real opponent!

You forgot Expert Tactician. You take your extra partial action against the kobold :D
I think you missed the point. :) You do not want to hurt your trusty kobold.

The idea was for all characters to have an angry blind kobold in their backpack. That way the (unerrataed) expert tactician, which gave you an extra partial action, would be constantly "on".

Edit: Oh, and another benefit would be that you would always be "in combat" due to the angry kobold's feeble attempts to harm you. You would therefore have 360 degrees vision and you could never be caught flat-footed.

Two things.

First of all, no random blinding of kobolds! You can do the same thing with blindfolds. Afterwards, you can use him as a scout, a second spellcaster...

Second of all, the Kobolds will not take to this kind of treatment. We wil use Shaved, Blind halflings. Beware.

You can't use halfings. They'll eat all your rations while they're in your backpack.

I remember someone wrote a background story for the Blind Kobold, who had advanced to 20th level because his evil DE master kept him around on his adventures, using him to power expert tactician and whirlwind great cleaves. It was pretty funny because the DE was named after the poster here (Elric?) who pointed out many of the S&F abuses.

I did point out a lot of Blind Kobold abuses. Great Cleave + Whirlwind Attack + Blind Kobolds was definitely my idea. Great Cleave + Combat Reflexes + Blind Kobolds was another good tactic that I think still works. For a little while, Supreme Cleave + a line of Blind Kobolds was teleportation. Expert Tactician + Blind Kobold worked with un-errata'd Expert Tactician as Iku Rex mentioned.

I do remember the level 20 Blind Kobold. I think that there was a Drow Elf named Elric in the story, now that you mention it :) I'm pretty sure that it was Josiah who created him. He had a lot of good smackdowns before there was a Smackdown thread and also had a hillarious description of Expert Tactician that involved a one-armed Blind Kobold swinging a loaf of French bread.
