I'm interested in RAW sources that may answer my question, although I do appreciate the suggestions offered so far.
Here's the relivant info I know about Symbionts, the Psionic Sinew in specific, and other symbionts for comparison:
"Symbionts are complete creatures, generally capible of surviving apart from a host creature for some length of time."
"They survive by joining with the host creature, usually granting the host certain benefits in exchange for the protection afforded it by a larger body."
"A Symbiont occupies part of the host creature's body-sometimes, but not always, limiting the number of magic items the host can use in the same way a magic item does."
(Fiend Folio p.215)
"If a Symbiont is grafted onto a visible part of the host creature's body... opponents can attack the symbiont itself instead of it's host creature. This works the same way as attacking an object..."
"Like a worn magic item, a symbiont is usually unaffected by spells that damage the host..."
(Fiend Folio p.215)
"Psionic Sinew...
Speed: 5 ft."
"A Psionic Sinew has no way to attach itself to an unwilling host. In general, creatures seek out a Psionic Sinew to gain it's benefits (much like a graft), or encounter a psionic sinew and attach it to their own bodies."
(Fiend Folio p.218)
Now, as I consider some other symbionts, they seem to imply methods of removing:
The Cerebral Hood (Fiend Folio p.216) appears to parasitically leech off the host, gradually distroying it's mind. Since the creature likely does not intend to die after the host has been destroyed, it likely disengage with the host and find a new one after feeding.
The Breed Leech (Magic of Eberron p.154) indicates, "Attaching or removing a breed leech deals 1d3–2 points of damage and 1d3 points of Constitution damage." It does not say the method for doing so, but indicates that it's doable.
A Crawling Gauntlet (Magic of Eberron p.155) indicates, " A crawling gauntlet surrounds the host’s hand and forearm like a real gauntlet, sending tiny tendrils into the fl esh to feed itself directly from the host’s blood. Attaching or removing a crawling gauntlet deals 1d3 points of Constitution damage." Now we have details of the symbiosis, and indication that attaching and removing is possible and the effects.
As we continue through Magic of Eberron, all the symbionts do some form of CON, WIS or INT damage to attach or remove.
Eberron Campaign Setting also has symbionts, each with indications of stat damage to attach or remove.
...And so, I'm trying to figure out from these sources, and if you fine people are familiar with any additional sources, what to do with deciding how (if to be able) to remove a Psionic Sinew. In some ways, they are addressed as "like grafts" and in other ways they are addressed "Like equipment". In the Eberron-specific material, they can be removed, although painfully.
Does there exist clear information about removing a symbiont in any official material that I can apply to the Psionic Sinew?
