Repeated Metamagic & Improved Metamagic

Mr.Binx

First Post
What are the rules for repeatedly stacking the same metamagic feats in conjunction with a character who has Improved Metamagic (such as the Incantatrix prestige class)? Since all metamagic feats are counted as one spell-level mod lower than normal, without proper errata you could make nigh any spell have an unlimited duration by stacking Extend Spell 5,000,000,000 times at a +0 spell-level mod. Currently I have been playing with a house-rule that repeated metamagic stacking counts as one metamagic feat application (i.e. Extend Spell + Extend Spell = Extend Spell II at a +4 spell-level mod). Anyone seen any official errata on how to handle this? In the ELH maybe?

The Incantatrix class ability doesn't lower the cost of a meta'd spell below +1 spell level...

Same for the feat.

That said, it is still too good of an ability as written, IMO.

We have an Incantatrix in our game. When he started to toss around quadruple empowered stat boosting spells (bull's strength and the like), we all realized there was a problem.

With his consent, we eratta'ed the ability (and now the feat) to lower the total metamagic by 1. So applying one empower is effectively +1 spell level. Four empowers is now +7 instead of +4.

That's how we did it anyway. YMMV.

BTW, I completely re-wrote the Incantatrix class, from the ground up, to make it playabe in other aspects as well. Even our Incantatrix player has concluded that the class is "broken". Especially with the +1 spell casting class bonus every level. If anyone is interested, I can post the whole thing.

Yes, please do post it over in house rules. I'd be interested, and doubtless others would as well. :)
